Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol & Red Tails Movie Reviews

By Randy Mitchell, published on Jan 31, 2012

I recently scanned the movie section, and being the red-blooded guy that I am, two recent releases advertising some adrenaline-filled action caught my eye causing me to walk inside the darkened rooms of the silver screen. I've seen both of these movies within the past few days and thought I'd share some of my insights on both before you pluck down some of your had-earned dollar bills. Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol: This is the fourth installment of the mega-successful thriller which actor, Tom Cruise, has made famous again by resurrecting the theme of the TV series from decades... (more)

Tower Heist (Movie)

By Angie Alaniz, published on Nov 5, 2011

Ben Stiller's new movie with Eddie Murphy “Tower Heist” is fun and entertaining to watch.

"Tower Heist" is well casted and includes names like:

Alan Alda, of M*A*S*H – (as the greedy villain).Eddie Murphy, who I believe needs no introduction – plays the thief that agrees to help them steal their money back. Matthew Broderick, known from Ferris Bueller’ Day Off (as a sad-sack Wall Street victim).

Casey Affleck, known for his role in “Good Will Hunting”, (as concierge).

Gabourey Sidibe, blew everyone away in her role in “Precious” (as Odessa the safecracking... (more)

Moneyball Movie Review

By christinemer, published on Nov 12, 2011

I love this movie. I’m going to go see it again, and then maybe one more time. It’s a chick flick with no romantic interest. Go figure. That alone makes it unique. It’s the story of David and Goliath, only they are baseball teams. It’s the story of a broken family. It’s a story of dreams unfulfilled. It’s a story about working together. It’s a story about believing you are right when there is no precedent for your ideas. So many stories, so little time—and yet they all unfold in a seemingly unhurried way with no loose ends. No easy task.

First, and I must confess to not following baseball,... (more)

Movie Review: My Week with Marilyn

By christinemer, published on Dec 8, 2011

...affair to be anything other than an interlude. Colin doesn't tell us about the rest of his life, but I fear he was never any good for any other woman after falling for Marilyn, who was only toying with him.

I have thought a lot about how she studied method acting during the filming of a movie about a showgirl who falls in love with a young prince. "Hmmm," said I to myself. "That makes total sense. She could practice her acting with poor, unsuspecting Colin and get it right in front of the camera later." In other words, the Colin and Marilyn story parrots the story Marilyn was... (more)

THE A-TEAM Movie Review

By DLFerguson, published on Jul 28, 2010

...bonded together by loyalty and brotherhood. Despite their wildly different personalities, at the core they shared the same values and morals. The A-Team proved time and time again that they were indeed a team in every sense of the word. And that’s probably why it took so long for the movie version of THE A-TEAM to come to the screen. It was necessary to find four actors who could recreate that same chemistry. Because if you don’t believe in the bond between these four guys then you’re not gonna believe they’re The A-Team.The movie version of THE A-TEAM shows how this... (more)

MoJoe's Movie Mania

By badmojoe78, published on Sep 5, 2010

Welcome one and all to MoJoe's Movie Mania! In an effort to bring order to the chaos that is my writing, I have decided to start a weekly installment. And here it is.

I love movies. Even more than that, I love critiquing movies, and I am quite sure I am not alone. Admit it, after watching a movie you spend the next hour or so arguing about it with your friends. You talk about it with co-workers, sometimes even your customers.

However, deep down, we all consider ourselves to be movie critics. Sure we don't have a fancy piece of paper from "movie college" saying we are "experts"... (more)

When Harry Met Sally -- MoJoe's Movie Mania Week 2

By badmojoe78, published on Sep 12, 2010

... that things should follow. The pair are introduced, they meet, they get to know each other, they get together, something goes wrong that separates them, and in the end they get back together. Like always, there are exceptions to these rules, but I think they fit many in the genre. This week's movie selection is no exception to the rule. However, I think it is one of the better romantic comedies there are. I speak, of course, of When Harry Met Sally.

The year was 1989. The director was Rob Reiner. The onscreen prospective couple: Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. I recently watched... (more)

MoJoe's Movie Mania: Red Cliff

By badmojoe78, published on Sep 27, 2010

Watching a movie from another country is often a fascinating experience. Depending on how much you know of the country, it can also be confusing at times. There is definitely a cultural barrier and, like reading a work of literature that was originally written in a different language, some things will be lost in translation. Regardless, the experience of immersing oneself in another culture, even if only through film, is something we should all do on a regular basis. Why not try it out by sitting down and enjoying the movie Red Cliff?

Directed by John Woo, the genius behind a guy... (more)

Movie Review - "It's Kind of a Funny Story"

By BusinessLife, published on Sep 30, 2010

NOTE: This isn’t a movie for kids.

This is possibly a movie for those who know someone living with depression. Since I haven’t seen it yet, I can’t know the movie’s full content. I don’t like hearing the Lord’s name taken in vain in the music. My hope is that the movie clip’s message is just a whisper of what we may see in the film about the reality we face trying to understand the world around us when you’re just a teen.

It’s not any easier dealing with depression at any age. But in the clip, the one line that I think is strongest comes from the teen’s friend. The teen... (more)
