Yes, it’s a new beginning

By Uttam Gill, published on Feb 11, 2013

As they walk into the crowd He feels her hand at his back He understood the assuring touch They instinctively carves the space to reach out The crowd is too busy to note them As they move further people notices them The transition embraces them warmly The instant revelation surprises them Pleasantly their existence acquires more space People around look at them The man passes by and turn back to see them She smiles and he holds her hand firmly They knew they are so familiar So much to say so much to share They exchange and tears rolls down They remain for hours absolutely as one Sun is about... (more)

hey chorused a noisy amen

By Uttam Gill, published on Feb 6, 2013

In chorus, they sing, kill them, it’s not a sin

They yell, to incite

Kill them, Kill them, they chant

Lunatic frenzy, at its peak

Marauding mob chants vociferously

In chorus, they sing, kill them, it’s not a sin

They are at the gate

The mob yells, “hand over them”

They are the one, to be killed

Sane one pleads, leave them

In chorus they sing, kill them, it’s not a sin

They coerces the way, to take away

The wounded soldiers and the nursing hand

Trophies in the hand of blood thirsty mob

The mob ask... (more)

Where are you now

By Uttam Gill, published on Jan 31, 2013

The wind whispers in the deafening sound of silence

Bell gongs at the unearthly hours of the day

Unruly noise of the waves hits the shore

She is at ease to hear that, she is not alone

She knocks at her own door and smiles

She waits amidst auditory orchestrations

She deletes the margin of impressions

From the ruin, she picks up the ash and throws to the wind

Wind rolls the ash in its fury, to destroy

Ash, cries and he hears that

She hears too, the knock at her door

He calls, “Is anybody out here”

“Who is there”... (more)

Slum

By Uttam Gill, published on Jan 25, 2013

I look down at the squalid piece of land

There the congestion can suffocate the life

I see smoke billowing out from a chimney

Somebody cooking and I wonder how life lives

The conglomerate of human being thrives on hope

The bizarre, these slums appear to be

My feet drag me into the narrow lanes

Smile of a child disarms me to read about them

Now, I see a world, where people too live

They live there and I hear a loud music

Oh! They celebrate too

Kids playing, ladies gossiping, everybody so living

From the lane,... (more)

For Her The Bell Tolls

By Uttam Gill, published on Jan 13, 2013

As the winter set in, the summer in my heart sing spring

The bell tolls but for whom

For the one who placed seasons in me

As the dawn breaks, she wakes up with me in my thoughts

Who is she? She is, for whom the bell tolls

As the day progress and noise increases

She comes and calms my nerves

For her the bell tolls

Seasons of life has withered her

But she resists the withering of others

She germinates hope

For her the bell tolls

The one who lives and the one who gives

I pray, I plead, when I die

Toll... (more)

Ghost Too Cry

By Uttam Gill, published on Jan 7, 2013

Today the silence is not same, in pitch dark of night; she steps out from her house and head towards the banyan tree at the outskirt of his village. The barren path and above the glowing sky, she walks alone in the middle of night, with that she, establishes an infallible trilogy of mysterious co-existence. To onlooker, it may appear, weird but who can be out at this hour of the night; only this woman, who is out there; piercing darkness for the reasons, known to her only. In silence, she contests the reasons of silence and that’s how every night, she walks alone, to be at that banyan tree.... (more)

My Love You Are Gone

By Uttam Gill, published on Jan 4, 2013

From where you took me, you left

Unrepentantly, you walked away

I wished my hope to rebel against, so as to hold you back

I gathered all my strength to say “Don’t leave my alone”

Your back, drew the big no and feet orchestrated the departure

“Oh! My love...Why? Why? Why you walked away”

With your back towards me, I ceased to exist

Come back my love...look back...Look at your man

Oh! I understood that now you won’t

You walked away with fanfare of arrogance

And I ,your man left alone on that sultry day

You drafted the... (more)

Mother, I want to live

By Uttam Gill, published on Dec 20, 2012

'Mother, I want to live'… This is what the girl, who was brutally raped and wrote on a piece of paper.

The brutal gang rape of 23 year old girl in a moving bus and that too on busy road, in New Delhi has shocked the nation. Something is terribly wrong with my country. Every day we have been hearing news of crime against women and this horrific incident has once again made me believe that this country is heading towards anarchy.

Why that our women are unsafe? Do we need to have such horrific incident to awaken us from the slumber? Do we have to believe, the shady assurances of... (more)

That’s how; we undertake our journey of life

By Uttam Gill, published on Dec 19, 2012

Life upturns with no clue

At the hindsight of reversal we assume, we learn

The moments of rejoice seldom doubts

That’s how; we undertake our journey of life

In usual captivity of realm of our belief, we trust

We fail to see a dagger, eager to stab

All gets camouflaged with fanfare of optimism

Over the murderous assault of betray, we cry

That’s how; we undertake our journey of life

Dream defines easy terms and life takes unusual burdens

In the conjectural spectrum of life, we wonder and drift

Even the drift has it course

Divinity in Your Sexuality

By Uttam Gill, published on Dec 14, 2012

In the universal truth of creation, sexuality has its own place. It matters, how it is looked upon. The loud cacophony of marooned expletives, on sexuality; constantly deletes my interest, to be a keen audience and I refuse to lend, my auditory senses. Permit me to say that, I have always enlivened sexuality wrapped in mysticism. All that is concealed is not revealed, if magic of sensuality fails to elicit the attention, instinctively. All that is revealed, if not in consonance with magical sensitivity of attention, and then in that case too, the rhetoric of sexual postures would leave... (more)
