Jammin' at UCLA JazzReggae Fest

Los Angeles-WOW! I can’t believe that another year has gone by and that I was able to celebrate the 21st Annual UCLA JazzReggae Fest with thousands of music lovers from all over Southern California, on May 27 and 28, 2007. The weather Gods looked down favorably upon this event. The Memorial Day weekend was pleasant with a nice Caribbean breeze blowing from the north east. The 2007 version of the festival has evolved into Jam Day on previously featured Jazz on Sunday. I’m glad that the UCLA Cultural Affairs Commissioned decided to keep some jazz on the line-up. "Living Legends"-Louis Gossett,Jr.,and Chaka Khan

Los Angeles-Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke- 2nd District in collaboration with the County Board of Supervisors and County Public Libraries celebrated Black History Month with its annual “Living Legends Series” honoring Oscar-winning actor Louis Gossett, Jr., and Grammy Award winning artist Chaka Khan and community advocate Henry Porter. The event was held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the A.C.Bilbrew Library, 150 East El Segundo Boulevard. Jazz To Reign Over the Hollywood Bowl

Hollywood-Cloudy skies greeted me as I awoke on the morning of February 22nd, 2007. This did not put a damper on my plans to attend the special news conference to hear the line-up for the 29th Annual Playboy Jazz Festival.

Invited musicians, media (print, radio, internet and T.V) and music industry representatives were amongst the V.I.P. guest in attendance at the Playboy Mansion for the press conference.

The Hamilton High School Academy of Music directed by Dan Taguchi entertained the crowd with a set of straight-ahead jazz.

Pan African Film and Arts Festival

Los Angeles-The 15th Annual Pan African Film and Arts Festival was held from February 9-February 19, 2007. The PAFF presented ten days of “QUALITY” films that represented the African Diaspora. The PAFF is the largest international Black film festival in the United States showcasing over 170 films from the United Kingdom, Nigeria, South Africa, Mali, Trinidad, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Morocco, France, Germany, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Canada, Cuba, New Zealand, Senegal, Switzerland, Algeria, Belgium and more. Mardi Gras In Los Angeles

Los Angeles-Carnival season was celebrated all over the world and concluded on Fat Tuesday, February 20, 2007. Mardi Gras came early for residents of the City of Angels in the form of the Louisiana To Los Angeles Festival. The 19th Annual LALA Mardi Gras Festival and Parade was held on February 10th. The day got under way with a colorful parade with marching bands, floats and LALA Secondline Dancers strolling down Crenshaw Blvd. to Leimert Park. My reason for visiting was to attend the festivities associated with Gasparilla 2007. Gasparilla is a three (3) part event that I had the joy of attending. Central Avenue Jazz Festival A Cultural Renaissance

Councilmember Jan Perry (9th District) welcomed thousands of constituents and visitors alike to 43rd and Central Avenue for the 15th Annual Central Avenue Jazz Festival, July 24 and 25, 2010. It is hard to believe that we were celebrating the 15th Anniversary of this popular festival. I had the pleasure of attending the last thirteen years of the festivals. Jose Rizo, James Janisse and Michael Dolphin served as Master of Ceremonies.
