I started working when I was 9 years old. That is the first time that I babysat. When I was 14, my parents bought a motel. Our house as attached to the motel and the reception/office was off the kitchen. Strangers came day and night. Our livelihood depended on how happy they were, how well they were treated. At 39 years old, I can officially say that I have worked in Client Services for 25 years. Sure I would not call myself an expert but I do know something about client services. In fact, I have worked at developing some standards as well evaluated the services offered where I work.To some... (more)
First, let's start of with the undeniable fact that being a mom is a very difficult thing, regardless of the situation or child. Mom's wake up in the middle of the night to care for their child, they worry, they love, they sacrifice. All mom's do that (or most, there are sad exceptions).
I must mention that there are single dads too. I guess I should use the work parent from now on, not to exclude those amazing single dad's who do it all...
First, let me start by talking about this mom I knew many years ago.
She was a single mom, the father having dumped her years before.... (more)
Recently, as I walked into a second hand store, I noticed a sign on the door. The sign said that pets were no longer allowed in the store unless they were work pets (such as a Seeing Eye dog).
I recall going to that store and seeing, on a few occasions, an older lady who had her dog in the seat of her cart. I saw her on a few occasions with her dog. I believe I recall seeing her in other stores as well.
I am fairly certain that this sign was aimed at her. I am also fairly certain that the sign was a result of some people complaining to staff about her dog.

Oh I know all you dog lovers out there are yelling, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Doesn't matter cause I am right.
People need to wake up and see the value of these beautiful animals.
They need to become responsible companions to cats.
The first thing is they need to see a cat as a sentient being. A cat can and DOES feel pain. A cat can and DOES feel fear.
Cats can be sad and depressed, they can love.
Cat's care for each other and their humans.
A cat that is treated like a member of the family will behave like a member of the family, just like a dog... (more)
I have two kids.
One is almost an adult, the other.... well... still have a way to go!
In the 18 years that I have been a parent I have learned a few things along the way. Being the youngest child, raised in a remote area, I did not have much effective child rearing knowledge when I started out. I had a lot of tricks that could not be used, like corporal punishment, and I had not been exposed to much current child rearing practices,so it was a long and tedious learning process. I made a lot of mistakes along the way. A LOT, way, WAY too many for my conscience, but it's too... (more)
I know a little something about Registered Plans as I have been working with two kinds for the last 5 years.
I know there are more than two, but the advice I have to give is good for all of them. Yes my knowledge is about Canadian Registered plans but I feel fairly confident that this advice is good for anyone, anywhere thinking of putting money aside.
First what is a Registered Plan?
A Registered Plan is an investment product offered through various financial institutions which are covered by basic federal government legislation. Usually the purpose of a Registered Plan... (more)
Since I have been on my own, I have moved quite a few times. I have also helped other people pack a few times so I have learned a thing or two about packing. Am I a pro yet? Nope but I thought I would share some of the things I have learned and a few tricks.
First, the myth about newspaper to wrap fragile stuff. I avoid newspaper like the plague. I found out after only one move that wrapping things in newspaper makes them dirty and sometimes stains them. I have since never used newspaper to wrap my things, not when there are so many more... (more)
For those of you you may have heard of Cervical Dysplasia or Cervical Cancer or even only the HPV vaccine, here is my story.
I was 19 when I had my daughter. After her birth, I went to the doctor for a Pap smear. It must have been late in the summer of 1993.
It can take 2-4 weeks to get the results of a Pap smear and usually doctors don't call you back unless the smear shows something.
So I was quite shocked when my doctor called me after a few weeks about my smear. I became quite worried when she insisted on seeing me right away. My doctor was the doctor associated... (more)
