Every once in a while couples must take time out just for each other: play some light music, pull the cork out of a nice bottle of wine, roast some potatoes (sweet and/or savory golden), heat the coals on the grill and throw some tender steaks and cook to proper perfection. But while my children are successful and accomplished, if they were to fail or are just short of reaching their goal, well, don’t look at me! Hubby and I did our part; we’ve sacrificed till we acquired our obvious wrinkles and load of gray hairs. We gave nothing short of just darn-right giving up every drop of blood we have.

The "blood" orange is very delicious; sometimes sweeter than a regular orange, and sometimes not. Without a doubt, it is a very brightly colorful variety in the citrus family, though the fruit is commonly smaller than an average orange, and the outer rind is somewhat bumpy and rough in texture. But the taste of this particular orange is certainly distinct, which makes for a very lovely and fresh tasting vinaigrette. Overall: it is beautiful and unique!

So don’t tell me not to worry, because I will and I do. I can turn a blind-eye when necessary, I can even keep my big mouth shut, once-in-a-while, but my heartstrings are still attached. Them I cannot sever. They are attached and twisted into knots forever, with no undoing.

Only God knows how I have tried to keep my children from making the same mistakes as I have, trying to keep them from tripping over the same stone, from falling into the same ditch… But learn from their own mistakes they must.

New York: My First White Christmas and Coldest Winter

We stood outside the buildings of Rockefeller Center admiring a large water fountain—an Atlas of bronze—and an enormously huge Christmas tree (the biggest I’d ever seen), all lit up and dazzling! The night was windy and freezing cold, enough to quite chill you to the bone. The cold that night was also record-setting, and it made the whole experience of visiting New York, well, down-right frightening. I wanted to cry out to my husband and say, “Can we please go home now, back to sunny, warmer California?” I couldn’t feel my fingers or toes or nose. Heck, I didn’t even know if I was breathing!

To “Tim Tam Slam” & Tea for Christmas

A Tim Tam is a sandwich cookie—of wafer with layers of chocolate malted biscuit, chocolate cream filling, and a thin coat of chocolate on the outside—originating from Australia. To “Tim Tam Slam” is to briefly use the cookie like a straw, while drinking coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, and then it is consumed with a degree of urgency…or you’ll end-up wearing it!
