Pleasurepalate has been part of Broowaha for a long time - and has focused her writing around one topic that she is obviosuly passionate about: Food. I caught up with her to ask a few questions about her passions and how Broowaha has been a platform for her food-writing.
How does where you live influence who/what you write about and how you go about reporting?
Where I live has absolutely everything to do with what I write. What people out of LA may not realize is that Los Angeles is truly a foodie town and has such a culinary diversity that it's absolutely amazing.... (more)
As you might recall one aspect of Broowaha I wanted to figure out when I came on board as editor was how we could work on collective stories. In time, I think this will help us get a larger picture of what makes our experiences unique in different cities around the world.
Our next call for contributions is around public advertisements. On your next commute to work, take a moment to look around you. What do you see? Have you noticed these advertisements before? Do they bother you? Do you agree with them? Are they paid advertisments or is it graffiti?
Then - sign into Broowaha... (more)
Gary Schwind is a natural choice for our first featured contributor interview. He has contributed 17 articles so far and some of them have been absolutely fantastic interviews. If you want to know what the music scene is like in Orange County, follow Gary and he'll keep you up to date. With all the interviews coming in I wanted to get to know a bit more about Gary and how he approaches being a Broowaha contributor. If you are curious as well, keep reading

Take a good long look at the picture of West Coast Growers.
When I moved into the neigborhood I thought it was perfectly San Francisco. I had to take this image off of Google Street View (tons of fun to play with), because sadly it shut down.
I didn't know in advance that it would shut-down. Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not a stoner. I just couldn't help but notice this week that it had turned into something very very different.
Check out Broowaha's San Francisco Flickr set. I uploaded two pictures yesterday, ObamaSF1 and ObamaSF2.

I have to admit, I was a bit nervous when I picked up the phone and called Craig Newmark. The guy has helped me find every apartment I've ever lived in, four bikes and even a few dates. When he picked up the phone Craig asked me to hold on while he turned down the TV.
He then answered every question I had in the most polite fashion possible. In the middle of our interview the ever watchful Newmark did a quick search for his name and found a Twitter I had just put out: "I'm interviewing Craig Newmark from Craigslist in 20 mins, anybody have any good questions." After a quick laugh, I... (more)
I grew up in Los Angeles. I love the city and defend it whenever people attack it as a plastic hybrid of a metropolis. I became an adult in the Bay Area. San Francisco in 2005 created a dream of a lifestyle. I discovered the "real world" in New York, where I worked my tushie off in grad school and working. I've done some traveling recently and have had the chance to further meditate about each city. I play an internal game lately — figuring out what relatives a city would be if I were to anthropomorphize them. Example If San Francisco is a nurturing mother - then New York is a strict... (more)
"You are young, broke and beautiful." Words of inspiration from somebody who knows firsthand what it's like to nickle and dime his way through life. Don't believe me? Find out yourself. This Thursday Broke-Ass is having a party to celebrate the release of a new edition of his book "Living cheaply in San Francisco" at The Rickshaw Stop (155 Fell Street). I first met Stuart way before he was broke living in San Francisco. I have the pleasure of knowing him when he was a broke college student at Santa Cruz. Stuart and one of my good friends from Los Angeles became friends, so when I would... (more)
