Oklahoma City - 12 Years On

By D. E. Carson, published on Apr 19, 2007

Who doesn’t remember where they were when they heard about what up to that point had been the worst terrorist attack on American soil? On April 19, 1995 at 9:00 a.m. CDT a moving truck parked on N.W. 5th Street, in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building. Two minutes later a fuel oil and fertilizer bomb exploded killing 167 people. One woman died later resulting from injuries she sustained during the rescue efforts for a total of 168 victims. For many, it is hard to believe that 12 years have passed since that event took place. In some cases, it seems like only yesterday, in others,... (more)

Inside The Mind of A Murderer

By D. E. Carson, published on Apr 19, 2007

Loneliness. Anger. Hate. All of these things have been said to be inside the mind of Cho Seung-Hui, the 23-year-old South Korean native who slaughtered 32 innocent people at Virginia Tech then turned his weapon on himself. A package received by NBC today contained a written work and video of a killer preparing for his “project.” All day long, speculation has raced through all of the major news talk programs, from Sean Hannity to NBC Nightly News trying to answer the one simple question: “Why?” He hailed from a working-class family who has immigrated to America. His parents operated... (more)

Thank GOD for The Second Amendment

By D. E. Carson, published on Apr 18, 2007

Some time ago, I wrote a rather lengthy editorial on this site focusing on the Second Amendment, yet no one opted to argue in support of or against my article. You can go find it if you like, it is titled “Constitution 101: The Second Amendment”. Following the massacre at Virginia Tech, I am still unwavering in my support of the Second Amendment and I am incensed at newspapers in England, France, Germany and elsewhere that sought to criticize our Second Amendment. To them I say, “I don’t tell you how to run your country so keep your cotton-pickin’ nose to yourself and don’t tell... (more)

Weekly Review

By D. E. Carson, published on Apr 15, 2007

What a week this has been. Don Imus puts his foot, ankle, leg, knee, thigh, hip and own butt into his mouth, the Duke Lacrosse players accused of rape are exonerated, Don Imus then gets fired from both MSNBC and CBS and we all have to suffer through a Friday the 13th. Never mind that one day this week, while watching Hannity and Colmes on Fox News, I saw something that just capped the whole week for me. What was that? Someone purchased airtime during the program to broadcast a commercial specifically aimed at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The commercial shows photographs of Pelosi with Syrian... (more)

Duke Lacrosse Players Cleared

By D. E. Carson, published on Apr 11, 2007

The three were indicted last spring for raping, kidnapping and sexual offense against a stripper at a Lacrosse team party. Cooper described the three athletes as innocent victims of a "tragic rush to accuse". Following Cooper's takeover of the case in January, an investigation into all charges and evidence presented in the case brought the attorney general to only one conclusion: "that no attack occurred." Cooper's takeover of the case was a result of complaints of misconduct against Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong. Ethics violation charges against Nifong could lead to disbarment... (more)

Last Words on Don Imus

By D. E. Carson, published on Apr 11, 2007

Don Imus has been suspended for two weeks. Al Sharpton wants Imus fired. So does Jesse Jackson. Don Imus wants to keep his job. The volleys continue to lob back and forth between self-righteous boneheads who think Imus should be fired and the crybabies who think the two weeks is too much. Frankly, I could care less. “Shrillary Rotten” Clinton said that Congress was “run like a plantation” effectively calling the blacks in Congress a bunch of worthless slaves. She also said something about a quote from “Mahatma Ghandi. He ran a little 7-11 down in St. Louis for a while.” Senator... (more)

Imus Gets Two Week Vacation

By D. E. Carson, published on Apr 10, 2007

CBS Radio and MSNBC have both suspended Don Imus for what have been called “racially insensitive” comments on his morning show last week. Organizations from NOW to the NCAA have come down hard on Imus for his comments in spite of his repeated admissions to having “gone way too far” when trying to make jokes about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team last Wednesday and his repeated apologies for making the comments. Even former perennial presidential candidate Al Sharpton jumped on the bandwagon of criticism. Going so far as to suggest that Imus would probably survive this... (more)

Iraqi Cleric Fears U.S. Troop Surge: Calls for Unification

By D. E. Carson, published on Apr 9, 2007

The statement bearing his seal was distributed in the Shiite holy city of Najaf and chastised Iraqi army and police for working with American troops. The statement said, "don't walk along side the occupiers, because they are your archenemy." It also told his followers that "god has ordered you to be patient in front of your enemy, and unify your efforts against them -- not the sons of Iraq" meaning his followers should not attack each other. U.S. intelligence believes that al-Sadr is in Iran attempting to avoid the security crack-down recently implemented by US and Iraqi forces. His whereabouts... (more)

Illegal Aliens are Illegal Aliens, Period!

By D. E. Carson, published on Apr 8, 2007

This column is probably going to offend some. Frankly, I don't care. America is my home and I will defend it to the end. If you are offended, that's your problem and I make no apologies. What is it going to take to get people to realize that when someone does something that is against the law, it is an illegal act and the perpetrator is a criminal? If I drive a car and run over someone, then leave the scene, that person is a victim and I am a criminal. But let someone come to the United States without following the proper channels, that person is given a pass??? I don’t think so! TO:... (more)

Four Dollar Gasoline???

By D. E. Carson, published on Apr 7, 2007

When I was still a minor, I remember my father and his second wife buying a van. One time in particular I remember my dad going to the gas station, filling the tank and saying, “This is the first time I’ve ever spent thirty dollars for gasoline in my life.” That van had a 30 gallon tank and it was the first time that gasoline topped $1.00 per gallon. This was in 1980. Now it seems that gasoline is on its way to $4.00 per gallon and yet no one seems to be doing anything about it. Oil companies announce record profits and we are supposed to believe that gasoline is cheaper now than it... (more)
