People That Make a Difference

By Coach Phatty, published on Mar 17, 2014

Throughout our lives, we can probably all remember a person or a few people, who have influenced our life in a certain way. Whether they touched our life in a positive or negative fashion, these people will never be forgotten.

In today’s world we have a tendency to focus on the THINGS that are happening in the world around us: news, work, local or world events, etc. and we forget to remember the good things in life.

I recently found this interesting little quiz on indianchild.com that I think many of you will find very interesting and inspiring.

A Chicago Story: The Brick

By Coach Phatty, published on Mar 13, 2014

It really is amazing to me when I think of the times when I react to a situation before I know the whole reason why an event happened. We all need to be a little more patient and take the time to be a bit more understanding when things happen to us. The following story is a great example of this concept…

A little while ago, a young and very successful executive named Josh was traveling down a Chicago neighborhood street. He was going a bit too fast in his sleek, black, 12 cylinder Jaguar XKE, which was only two months old.

He was watching for kids darting out from between... (more)

We Could All Be Doomed!

By Coach Phatty, published on Mar 10, 2014

“If we are only as strong as our weakest link, our species is utterly doomed…) Here is a collection of some of our country’s “smartest” criminals!

It seems a man, wanting to rob a downtown Bank of America, walked into the branch and wrote, “This iz a stikkup. Put all your muny in this bag.” While standing in line, waiting to give his note to the teller, he began to worry that someone had seen him write the note and might call the police before he reached the teller window. So he left the Bank of America and crossed the street to Wells Fargo. After waiting a few minutes in line,... (more)

Carl

By Coach Phatty, published on Mar 10, 2014

Carl was a quiet man. He didn’t talk much. He would always greet you with a big smile and a firm handshake.

Even after living in our neighborhood for over 50 years, no one could really say they knew him very well.

Before his retirement, he took the bus to work each morning. The lone sight of him walking down the street often worried us.

He had a slight limp from a bullet wound received in WWII.

Watching him, we worried that although he had survived WWII, he may not make it through our changing uptown neighborhood with its ever-increasing random violence, gangs,... (more)

Just Five More Minutes…

By Coach Phatty, published on Feb 8, 2014

There is something that is important to each and every one of us. It is something that once we experience it, we can never get it back…and that is…time. There are so many times in our lives that we wish that we had more time doing something we enjoy or spending time with friends and people we love. A Dish of Ice Cream

By Coach Phatty, published on Jan 25, 2014

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.

“How much is an ice cream sundae?”

“50 cents,” replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied a number of coins in it.

“How much is a dish of plain ice cream?” he inquired. Some people were now waiting for a table and the waitress was a bit impatient.

“35 cents,” she said brusquely.

The little boy again counted the coins. “I’ll have the plain ice... (more)

A Letter From A Mother to a Daughter

By Coach Phatty, published on Jan 7, 2014

The following letter was written by a mother to her daughter. Simply put…it is beautiful reminder of a mother / daughter (or son) relationship.

“My dear girl, the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through.

If when we talk, I repeat the same thing a thousand times, don’t interrupt to say: “You said the same thing a minute ago”… Just listen, please. Try to remember the times when you were little and I would read the same story night after night until you would fall asleep.

When I don’t want... (more)
