Katie Couric Agreed with Me on John Edwards

By Cecelia Hendryx, published on Mar 26, 2007

Last night, on CBS's "60 Minutes," in her interview of Democratic presidential nomination candidate John Edwards and his cancer-suffering wife Elizabeth, CBS Evening News' first anchorwoman, Katie Couric, challenged the Edwards spinmeistering on the couple's announcement last week to continue his campaign to its culmination in 2008 despite Elizabeth Edwards' likely terminal illness. In my column right after the Edwardses' news conference announcement, I questioned the sincerity of John Edwards' purported deep concern for his wife and young children compared to his political aspirations, and was... (more)

John Edwards: What a Creep

By Cecelia Hendryx, published on Mar 22, 2007

And I once believed - like, yesterday - the hype that John Edwards was thoughtful and concerned about the "little people." And, well, maybe he still is, regarding the "little people," just not so much about memebers of his own family, like his wife and kids. Please. How, how, how can John Edwards continue to drag Elizabeth Edwards and their two young(6- and 8- year- old)children through the arduousness and tumult of a presidential campaign, when Elizabeth Edwards is probably now dying of cancer? (The Edwardses also have an adult daughter and had a teenage son, who died in an car accident nearly... (more)

Comedy as Tragedy : This Time It's Richard Jeni

By Cecelia Hendryx, published on Mar 11, 2007

Overnight, I read with astonishment and sadness that the popular comic, Richard Jeni, had died in a Los Angeles hospital, apparently from a suicide, by gunshot. According to reports, Jeni was found mortally wounded by police who had been summoned Saturday morning to a West Hollywood home. It is in the same vicinity of the untimely self-inflicted demises of two giants of comedy: Lenny Bruce and John Belushi. A coincidence? I think not. It is not so much that they died in places of close proximity, but what they all died of: comedy itself. Comedy entertains millions and makes millions of dollars... (more)

Bush and Cheney: Just Quit

By Cecelia Hendryx, published on Dec 15, 2006

The latest opinion polls show George W. Bush with an approval rating of little more than 30%. Thirty percent! I have no idea what too so long, but finally, the country's had enough of him and his band of blunderers. So, why don't George W. Bush and his handler, Dick Cheney, just quit, taking the entire excuse for an administration with them? If they'd just pack up and leave - a la Richard Nixon - we would avoid the national trauma of endless federal investigations now threatened by the Democrats and the virtually guaranteed impeachment proceedings to follow. Tangentially, but also beneficially,... (more)

Liberally Speaking

By Cecelia Hendryx, published on Dec 11, 2006

We on the Left don't really care what you people think on the Right. But we do want to redistribute your wealth. The Left is right. The Right is wrong. And never the twain shall co-exist effectively, to my taste, in the Democratic Party. If Hollywood is full of white liberals, like people say, why is almost everybody in the industry white? I think what people really mean to say is that Hollywood is full of phony white liberals. Like John Kerry, wasn't Hillary Clinton for the war, before she was against it? Of course, but we'll never see that much truth slip between her lips - just her... (more)

Humor Me, Hendryx: On Obama, "Right-bots," Andy Dick-wad, Bush, Mel, the Dixie Chicks & More

By Cecelia Hendryx, published on Dec 8, 2006

If Barack Obama, an African-American, is elected President of the United States in 2008, what will happen? There will be a run on ice skates in Hell. What are "Right-bots?" Americans who robotically do whatever their lying, hypocritical, wacked-out right wing leaders (Rush, O'Reilly, Hannity, Dobson, Savage, etc.) command because they won't wake up, see they're being used for profit and start thinking for themselves. The opposite of "liberals," like me. What is a better nickname for George W. Bush than "Dubya?" "Dumbya." What is an even better nickname for George W. Bush? "The Man Who Knew... (more)
