None Dare Call it Sabotage

By Caballero_69, published on May 11, 2011

Republicans sabotage the functioning of our Constitutional Republic and some Democrats disrupt their party’s defense of it.

On January 20, 1981, the newly elected Ronald Reagan declared, “In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.” In the same paragraph of his inaugural address, he concluded with this starkly revealing sentence. “The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price.” We should appreciate his candor because this admission disclosed the underpinning of Mr. Reagan’s famous assertion.

Justice Delayed, Justice Done and Justice Denied

By Caballero_69, published on May 6, 2011

On May Day 2011, President Obama made this announcement –

“Good evening. Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.”

He did this with an appropriate demeanor and through well-chosen words. This was a solemn message and it was delivered in a befittingly dignified manner. American citizens watched and listened to their President honorably fulfilling the role... (more)

Words are all I have

By Caballero_69, published on May 5, 2011

Some make music, some paint pictures, some sculpt statues but

Words are all I have.

Some seek beauty, some describe beauty, and some embody beauty

Words are all I have.

To inspire love of country, to express admiration, to sound a call to duty

Words are all I have.

Times are troubled, people are hurting, and the Republic is tottering,

Words are all I have.

I wish I could do more, I wish I could do better, I wish I was a hero

Words are all I have.

The ideals that unite us, the feelings that excite us and the dreams which inspire... (more)

Thank you! Mr. President

By Caballero_69, published on Apr 29, 2011

As reported well in Reader Supported News, President Obama has secured the release of his long-form birth certificate even though the state of Hawaii has only provided short-form certificates since the mid-1980s. He did so because so many people persisted in complaining about the absence of the long-form document that this false controversy drowned out serious discussion and thoughtful consideration of real issues. There may also have been tactical political considerations, but that is simply a reflection of the times in which we live. Why did anyone pay enough attention to the birther gibberish... (more)

My Country - what it might and ought to be!

By Caballero_69, published on Apr 26, 2011

My country bears malice toward none

My country shows charity for the weak and the small

My country fervently hopes that all will give some

My country genuinely thanks those who gave all.

My country strives to create true freedom from fear

My country seeks to be the real land of the free

My country welcomes many from far and from near

My country belongs to you and to me.

My country is known as the home of the brave

My country’s flag waves and may it never fall

My country once housed both master and slave

Unseen Tears Fall Upon the Soul

By Caballero_69, published on Apr 19, 2011

Amidst a party, I find myself alone for you are gone

Others exult and revel while I struggle to go on

I drink the standard potions and

Repeat the usual motions but

The efforts take their toll

And silently, but steadily, I spiral out of control

Some pains refuse to fade

Many approach, but none with aid

Dreams are dying and

I am sighing

Voices reach me from the swirling haze

I stand in the clutches of a daze

Through the day and into the night

What or who can make this right?

I hold myself to keep... (more)

Honor the Father

By Caballero_69, published on Apr 17, 2011

During the 2010 mid-term election campaign, Republicans rarely missed an opportunity to boast of their patriotism and broadcast their devotion to the Constitution. When they regained the majority in the House of Representatives, they began the session by reading an edited version of the Constitution and requiring that any bill introduced stipulate the precise section of the Constitution that supports it. Unfortunately the patriotism of which the Republicans boast and the Constitution they profess to adore, are not the same ones non-ideological Americans honor.

Few Republicans demonstrate... (more)

Keeping from Pettiness - What If?

By Caballero_69, published on Apr 16, 2011

“We must use time wisely and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right. To be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others. There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for lives that are less than the ones, we are capable of living or accepting a world that is less than the one we are capable of building.” Nelson Mandela

By thinking big thoughts rather than small ones and using the best words rather than the worst ones, each of us will enhance the quality of our thinking and our communication.... (more)

Honor the Warriors

By Caballero_69, published on Apr 9, 2011

There is no draft that is used to staff

This raging war of error

While repeatedly the best of men

Return to fight the terror

The corporate lies and feeble tries

To warp the soul and claim the lives

Of poor men and women with little hope

Approaching near the end of rope

No taxes rise to sooth the cries

Of those who bear the brunt of war

Lives and limbs are lost

While warriors furnish all the cost

And veterans, those who nobly served,

But never got what they deserved

Once soldiers deemed supremely... (more)

Why are these People Lying?

By Caballero_69, published on Apr 7, 2011

On Wednesday morning, Representative Mike Pence lied to the American people. This was not the first time he has done so and he is not alone. Mr. Pence asserted he would reject any budget compromise, and shut down the federal government, if that's what it takes to defund Planned Parenthood. Mr. Pence believes the “American people have begun to learn that the largest abortion provider in the country is also the largest recipient of federal funding under Title X.” Mr. Pence is knowingly lying. There is not a cent of federal funding for abortions given to or expended by Planned Parenthood.... (more)
