A Pagan's Prayer

By Caballero_69, published on Jul 19, 2011

Abundantia, beneficent spirit of opportunity and prosperity, I ask that you look with favor on one who deserves your intercession.

She has given so much for so long, to so many and now she merits the blessing of good fortune on her aspirations.

Turn your golden countenance toward her and let the brilliance of your favor shine upon her in her quest so that she may fulfill her desire and others may benefit as well.

Honor the time and the energy she has devoted to the pursuit of her dreams and desires by melting the obstacles that block her way.

Allow a true understanding... (more)

Being Positive

By Caballero_69, published on Jul 16, 2011

Being positive expresses what you choose to be and do

It does not depend on a reaction to things and people that are now surrounding you

Being positive in no way means you are silly or naïve

It means you have a clear conception of all you genuinely believe.

Being positive never shows that you are meek or shallow

Such an outlook simply signals your commitment to things of enduring value.

Being positive does mean you cower before those who work for your defeat,

It really makes it clear that you will not surrender and retreat.

Now Eagles Dare

By Caballero_69, published on Jul 15, 2011

You play for the glory of your country

You make all young women aspire to be there

In the beauty of your style and skills

You show how eagles dare

Though the calls may go against you

And your energy may wane

If you hold fast to your purpose

You can win the final game.

Look for leadership from Abby

Know you can always count on Hope.

If the tide of play tilts the wrong way,

Meghan and Alex will come running to lift you up the slope.

Now you face the final foe,

A skilled and determined team

They will... (more)

Patriotically Speaking

By Caballero_69, published on Jul 14, 2011

The factional divide persists in the nation's capital. At least some on one side appear willing to trash the "full faith and credit of the United States" in order to score points with the angry and benighted base. When one considers, the Republic was established to among other purposes to "form a more perfect union", the conclusion that one should fear for the Republic is completely understandable. While both parties have made some contribution to this sorry state of affairs, their responsibilities are nowhere near equivalent. Despite the misguided tendency in the media to pretend objectivity... (more)

The Blond Wonder

By Caballero_69, published on Jul 12, 2011

As an American, I am in a small, but growing minority. I love soccer [known to the rest of the world as football]. My favorite professional sports team is Barcelona FC. This alone, would put me in a very small group as I live in Pittsburgh, PA. As most know, this town has a couple of beloved franchises. For me, however, soccer is truly the beautiful game. Never is it genuinely more so that when it is played by teams of skilled, committed young women.

On Sunday, 10 July 2011, the current USA Women's Team showed the country and much of the world just how beautiful the game can be.... (more)

Shining Through

By Caballero_69, published on Jul 9, 2011

When obstacles impede or pains and fears impale you.

It can be complicated and frightening to work or fight your way through.

If you can surmount the problems though, your zest will soon renew.

If dire threats loom on the known horizon,

That freeze your mind and drain your will to keep on keeping on,

Pause, gather your strength, and stride briskly forward into the breaking dawn.

The only way to know for sure your present path is right

Is to find yourself flat on your back and get up again to fight.

For even on the bravest and the best... (more)

Patriotically Speaking

By Caballero_69, published on Jul 7, 2011

As of 7 July 2011 C E, the federal government of the United States, faces a crisis of a magnitude and severity it has rarely encountered. A serious and responsible citizen much less a patriotic citizen might ponder the question, “How did it come to this?” A recent and ongoing media frenzy that illustrates how distracted and even debased our culture has become sheds light on the answer.

This titillating, sensationalized media madness is usually called coverage of the “Casey Anthony Trial.” While the federal government slouches toward Gomorrah in the phrase of Robert Bork that cultural... (more)

Cause for Celebration

By Caballero_69, published on Jul 4, 2011

What a great Fourth of July this is shaping up to be. Right here on BrooWaha, Julian Gallo, Life Riddles, and Firkroy have written articles that remind us all of how fortunate and joyous we should feel to live in the nation whose birth was announced 235 years ago today. As Julian says, "Some will reflect on the actual meaning of what today is supposed to represent and know how fortunate they are that they were born and raised here in the United States of America and not Afghanistan, Iran or any other nation that is now a cauldron of violence and oppression." This observation is in harmony with... (more)

The Republic Born Anew

By Caballero_69, published on Jul 2, 2011

Based on ideals so dear and long held to be true

Can the Republic, now so much imperiled, rise and live anew?

Will a government of the people with powers fine and just

Triumph o’er the cabal of greed, conceit, and ruinous lust?

Will we give our full effort and bestow our due consent?

Or from the struggle for the future will we ignobly shrink and timidly relent?

In this time, that so sternly tries the soul

Will we work tirelessly with true purpose to make the nation whole?

As all, have the rights to liberty and life,

Why do we far... (more)

Patriotically Speaking

By Caballero_69, published on Jun 30, 2011

The sub-head could be a reprint of a current headline, but it is not. This is the slightly paraphrased statement of a member of the Confederation Congress in 1786. These were also times that tried Ameicans' souls. Two hundred twenty-five years later the time of crisis visits us again. As with the original crisis and its second rendition a decade later, summer soldiers and sunshine patriiots once more shrink from the service of their country. We must remember, patriotism is much more than waving the flag, wearing a lapel pin, or insisting on one's rights and extolling freedom. Patriotism... (more)
