Thank you for this interview, Susan. Can you tell us briefly what your latest book, Sarah, They’re Coming for You, is all about?
Sarah has been tormented by restless spirits of the dead since childhood. The only way she can end her haunting is to travel to her family’s ancestral castle in the tiny Alpine town of Meiningen, Austria and face the ghosts head on. The discovery of her great great great great grandfather’s diary, dating back to the year 1818, provides clues as to the origin of the haunting that has plagued Sarah’s family for generations.
Can you tell us who or what was the inspiration behind your book?
I was the inspiration behind the book! The story is based on actual events from my own life. Like Sarah, I have the ability to see ghosts, including many encounters over the years with malicious entities who do not seek God’s blessing. Hauntings are not just about the Catholic Church and the Exorcist, our protagonist is Jewish, which puts a bit of a different spin on the classic ghost story.
Is this your first published book and if so, can you tell us your experiences in finding a publisher for it?
Yes, this is my debut novel. I was amazingly lucky in finding a publisher a mere three months into my search. I had decided early on I would not self-publish or use a vanity press, as I didn’t want to pay to have my book published. If my novel was not accepted by a traditional publisher, I would still be unpublished today!
How has Wild Child Publishing been to work with?
Amazing! The huge amount of time and energy the editors put forth working with my amateur manuscript is incredible. The endless rounds of editing, which morphed my book into a professional novel worthy of publication is due to their never ending desire to perfect the author’s work.
Do you have an agent?
No I don’t I am looking for an agent to promote me as an author and a ghost hunter after my tour with Pump Up Your Books is completed the end of May
Can you tell us how long it took you to write your book and also how long it took from the time wild child publishing sent the contract and the time it was released?
It took me a little over a year to write the book. However, I didn’t work continuously on it. While writing the manuscript, we moved from upstate New York back home to south Florida. It was a total of thirteen months from the time Wild Child Publishing sent me the contract and the time it was released.
Do you have any words of inspiration from other writers who would like to be wearing your shoes?
Writing and editing is only half the job! Make sure you have a business plan to market your book upon its release!
What’s next for you?
Perhaps a book compiling my experiences over the years as a medium as well as a paranormal investigator. I would love my own reality television show, similar to Paranormal State!
