With the economy slowly beginning to recover, CareerSaver wanted to know if IT certifications were still recognized as a valuable commodity in helping one secure a job and advance in said job.

As someone directly involved in the creation and delivery of IT continuing education and certification training I would be VERY interested in hearing the thoughts of the community re certifications. Please address their value if one is employed vs. unemployed and looking.”
The response was overwhelming and the comments verified CareerSaver’s longstanding message regarding continuing education and certification in the IT arena. While it was agreed that there is no substitute for hands on experience, certifications and continuing education are clearly a worthwhile investment in getting one’s foot in the door and keeping it there. They keep a professionals’ knowledge current while validating their skill set. Additionally they enhanced one’s job security as well as the opportunity to advance within their company.
CareerSaver also questioned whether having certifications was important to those who are currently unemployed and actively searching for employment. A variety of job seekers responded, from those just beginning their career to advanced professionals looking for a new position. All answered with a resounding “yes!”
