I was driving around the streets of Tampa and getting reacquainted again after being away for ten years. A lot has changed within that time period, and some stayed the same as if trapped in a time capsule. One of the things I was spoiled in Los Angeles was that there were some boxing gyms that I could go and train whenever I wanted. I think Tampa is lacking that and it needs to change. I missed the smell of The Broadway Gym in South Central. There's nothing like it, until...
I found a gym that fueled my ambitions to start training again. I haven't trained like a champ in about 2 years, give or take. There's only so much you can do on your own, but having a gym to call your second home is something I really need. The Broadway Gym is my second home in Los Angeles.
Legends Boxing Club is now my second home in Tampa, Florida.
I found this gym by accident while driving on Howard Avenue last week. I saw a boxing sign out front and the world stopped! I pulled over and walked inside. All the equipment I needed to get back into shape was waiting for me to use. Luckily, I had just got my tax returns and I paid for my membership. I also met the man who owns and runs the gym. He was the former featherweight champion, Fransisco Arreola. A real nice guy with a passion for the sport.
Today (4/6/2011), was my first day at the office. I worked up a good sweat, and I didn't overdo it since I haven't trained in a quite a while. My lungs got to be breathing right the way it used to be, you know? I think the first day wasn't bad at all. The gym is still under-construction and the ring is currently being built, but everything else is in full use. It's good that I caught this gym while in the beginning stages which would hopefully make me an original member from the start.
