Eyes

They say that the eyes are the the mirror of the soul, but some people know how to keep it hidden.

I'm sure we've all met them, the people who seem one way in public but in private they are something else. The ones who keep the real of who they are hidden away. I'm also sure we've all met some who are so good at being this other person that we never know what is the truth of who they are. Some do it for self-protection, others do it just to mess with people, and still others do it without even knowing it because it's all they know how to be. In reality though, are we not all hiding something of ourselves from at least some of the people we know or meet? It's all a matter of degrees really along with a little delusion and deception. Here's a poem about someone I once knew who was a master at it.

Eyes

Look into my eyes and tell me what you see
You think you know the real me
Eyes are the window to the soul, the real you
That's not what you would think if you only knew

So good at hiding the truth from almost everyone
Playing pretend it can be so much fun
Keeping the real me for only one or two
Sharing only what I want you to believe with you

Messing with your mind, convincing you it's real
Knowing just what to say, just how to make you feel
Look into my eyes, but don't believe what you see
You will never know the real me

So good at convincing others to believe
So easy it is to deceive
Splitting myself in two
The one I share with some and the one I share with you

would have liked it better without the intro, but love the poem. I think everyone is a little bit like this though, no one shows everyone who they really are
