The Heat and Magic have amassed 7 game win streaks and people are going off the deep end. They are the greatest ever. Their teams can't lose. No one can stop these teams. Don't get crazy people.
The Heat took a long time to gel and finally start trying to play like a team, but the 7 game win streak says more about what they are not than what they are. They have beaten 2 top tier teams - well 1 top tier team and 1 team that appears top tier but it's really not. The Lakers and the Knicks. The Lakers are a top tier team but have struggled of late and the Heat got them on the down slide. The Knicks on the other hand look good, but their record shows that the teams they are winning against are at the bottom of the NBA barrel. The Heat have also beaten Phoenix a middle of the road team and you might can put the Warriors in that group too, but barely. The rest of their wins, against the dregs of the NBA at this point - Rockets, Bobcats, Bucks. It really doesn't say you're a great team if you're beating a team that's scraping the bottom. But 7 wins is 7 wins and in the standings that's all that matters. In reality though, the Heat's record against really good teams is not that great so far this season.
The Magic made a huge trade and after a few games, they started playing well together and their 7 wins are a little more impressive than the Heat. The Magic have played several top tier teams and won including the Spurs, the Celtics, and the "allegedly top tier" Knicks. Two middle of the pack teams in the Cavs and Warriors. And then two bottom of the barrel teams - the Nets and Bucks. All the Magic's wins have been absolutely dominant putting up big points over their opponents. The offense is really shutting down other teams with 22 points over the Spurs (the standings leader in the NBA West) being a standout performance. The Magic are not as big as some other teams, but they are quick and move the ball well.
These two teams are looking to move up in the East but the other top teams in the conference are winning too. The Celtics remain on top only half a game ahead of the Heat and 4 1/2 games ahead of the Magic. The Bulls are right in there only 4 games back of 1st place and the Hawks are 5 games back at present. The East is a tough division at the top and the teams always stay close in range of one another throughout the season. With a few more wins versus sub par teams the Heat could move into 1st place in the next stretch of games. But that would mean the Celtics have to lose and that's something they aren't doing often this season having lost only 7 games so far. Big win streaks make the sports media highlight reels - but don't get crazy people. This is the NBA Eastern Conference and these teams are all winning.
