The playoffs march into Sunday with two games. One that could be a blow out and one that could be one of the best games of the year. You never know how these things will play out though and the unexpected can happen more than you think.
In the first game on Sunday, we have the Ravens vs the Chiefs. The Ravens have played like a team without a rudder a lot of the season. They have won big, come up big, and then fallen flat. Their defense with Ed Reed is still one of the best in the league. It's their offense where they are a bit shaky. Joe Flacco is a quarterback along the lines of Mark Sanchez. You never know what you're going to get. The Ravens have taken below average days from him and still won with their running game and their defense. But in a big game if they get down by a lot of points, Flacco isn't the guy to bring them back with his arm. That's just not going to happen. A lot of people are expecting the Ravens to win this game easily, but I don't think it will be a walk in the park.
The Chiefs are a very young team with a ton of talent. They have an up and coming QB in Cassel who can make the long throw and who can work in the pocket. Their running game is one of the best in the league. Jamal Charles is turning into a premiere running back. Their defense is also pretty good and could make things interesting for Flacco. I do worry about their ability to protect Cassel from the Ravens rush. If they can do that, they just might have more than a good chance of winning this game. The Ravens are considered to be one of the top teams, but some of the time this year they haven't looked it at all.
I'm going to pick the Ravens, but not by much and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were upset by the Chiefs.
The second game on Sunday is the Eagles vs the Packers. The Eagles lost to the Packers in the season opener after starting QB Kevin Kolb suffered a concussion and Vick only played QB for part of the game. It's a game Vick believes the Eagles would have won had he played the entire game. Now the Eagles will face the Packers with Vick as their starter and after a week off to rest, he should be healthy and ready to go. The Eagles are on a mission to prove that they and Vick belong in the top teams in the league. The Eagles have all the tools to win the game with a balanced offensive attack. But I look for this game to be a QB shootout and one where turnovers may be the difference.
The Packers got into the playoffs by beating the Bears in an ugly game. The Packers didn't look all that great and now they have to go into Philly and play against a rested Eagles team. It's going to be an uphill climb for the Packers who are definitely more of a 1 dimensional team than the Eagles are. The Packers will rely squarely on Aaron Rogers to throw them into the next round. If the Eagles can get to Rogers and shut down the Packers passing game, this one could turn into a rout by the Eagles. If the Packers defense can contain Vick and put him on the ground, then they stand a much better chance of winning.
I've got the Eagles in this game. They just have too many ways to win.
Bring on the playoffs!
