This is the story of a man who wanted to get sued.
Jason Fortuny, a 30 year old network administrator, defines himself as a man who knows how "to push people's buttons". He unfortunately probably pressed a bunch of wrong ones in his latest experiment which results he posted on Encyclopedia Dramatica, a spin-off of Wikipedia.
He posted on Seattle's craigslist a fake ad pretending to be a woman interested in BDSM sex. He received tons of answers, with pictures, cell phone numbers and all sorts of personal information. Interestingly, several of the individuals who contacted him were pretty high profiles, one claiming to be a contractor for Microsoft, another having a .mil email address (i.e. US military).
So far nothing out of the ordinary, considering that most of Craigslist's ads are also posted by guys pretending to be sexy women desperately in need of sexual relief.
Where Jason Fortuny "innovated" is that he actually posted on the Internet the answers he received to his ad, and this, unedited, including pictures in different states of nakedness and personal information.
Several individuals who answered the Craigslist post have apparently been recognized by relatives and some of them already begged to be removed from the posts in an attempt to save their personal life.
Encyclopedia Dramatica, the website on which the answers have been posted for the first time is currently down due to an excessive number of connections.
Reactions sparking everywhere on the Internet have been very virulent and strongly condemned Fortuny's actions.
Ironically, Jason Fortuny seems very open about what he did in his blog hosted by LiveJournal and even goes as far as posting his own personal information. We won't divulge it here in an effort to protect his identity.
While this is most likely to have him deal with a significant number of lawyers in the future, it may also have another consequence. The women actually looking for BDSM sex on Craigslist might have trouble finding partners from now on.
