Really Cowboys?!

The Cowboys need to look in the mirror to solve their problems not get a new coach every 7 games.

The Cowboys are just a mess. They just cannot seem to get anything together. I have my own thoughts as the reasons why and I think I'm right for the part. I also think that unless big changes are made, the Cowboys stay mired in the dregs of the NFL for a good long time.

The Cowboys have some extremely talented players. But you would never know it by the way they play most of the time. I think that the Cowboys have 3 problems. One, Jerry Jones. The owner is just too involved in the day to day activities. He cannot let the team evolve as it is with the players and the coaches. He has to have his finger in every single aspect of it. Micromanaging does not work in football. He needs to step back and stop wanting to be in the media spotlight all the time.

Their second problem, Tony Romo. The team was losing with Romo before he was injured and they will lose when he returns. He is not a top tier quarterback. He is not a Super Bowl quarterback. He is not a big game quarterback. He is not a leader. If the Cowboys want to win they have got to get rid of Romo, which will never, ever happen. So, they are stuck with him and they will continue to be a mediocre football team with him as their starter.

Their third problem, most of the team doesn't want to play with Romo. They don't respect him. They don't believe in him. They don't trust him in big game situations. They are not standing behind him no matter what. They don't rally around him when things go bad. This is a a team of isolationists. The defense doesn't bond with anyone. The receivers don't bond with the QB. The QB doesn't do anything to bring the team together. As long as Romo remains and no one on this team takes any leadership role, they will continue to falter.

Notice I didn't mention any coach as the fault in this team. Phillips was not the fault when he was fired. Garrett is not the fault now. Getting a new coach, unless it's one that can totally change the entire mindset of your team and give your starting QB some gumption, isn't going to change anything. The Cowboys problems are internal. They start at the top and they trickle down to each and every player. They don't play with team spirit. They don't play with heart. They don't give it 100% on every single play. The fault is in the mirror - the Cowboys need to take a look and stop trying to "fix" themselves with a new coach every 7 games.

As it is an opinion piece, there are no comments, obviously. They do have talent and quite a bit of it. It is just no one really sees it as they all play below their abilities. I'm sure if you want quotes they can be readily found with a little search :)
