Brett Favre left the game very early in the 1st quarter on Sunday for the Vikings after suffering a SC sprain (sternoclavicular) to his right throwing shoulder after being hit and put on the ground. It is the first such injury of Favre's career and may be the last.
Favre had an x-ray at the field that was negative for fracture or break. He will have an MRI today. It remains to be seen if he will play next Sunday. I am going to say that if he cannot play and if he may be out significant time, that it may be the end of Favre's career. The Vikings did win yesterday with Tavaris Jackson in the game and Adrian Peterson running all over the Bills leaving the Vikes with a 5-7 record. If the Vikes were to win out the rest of the season and end up with a 9-7 record I do not think they could see the playoffs this year. I am just not sure if Favre would come back if not completely healthy that being the case. Of course, Favre generally does exactly the opposite of what I think, so who knows.
Jackson filled in adequately for Favre with 15 of 22, 187 yards, 2 TDs and 3 INTs - so all in all not much different from Favre. Adrian though was the engine that drove the Vikes train yesterday - 107 yards and 3 TDs. The team looked really complete on Sunday. Even missing Harvin who stayed back home with migraines and didn't even make the trip. People will say but it was the Bills - but that's a mistake. The Bills have played tough all year and winning a game against them is not a walk in the park despite what the stats say for Sunday.
The MRI news on Favre will come out soon, but I do think if he has a significant injury it could be the end for him. The Vikings found out that they can win with Jackson and running Peterson. Favre knows there are no playoffs in the Vikes future this year. Is his consecutive start streak that important to him? Is not being the center of attention something he can do? I guess we will all find out - unless he goes all wishy washy on this one too.
