This week's Thursday night game pits the Chicago Bears against the Miami Dolphins. Both of these teams can win and both of these teams have problems. Most people would say Miami has more being down to their 3rd string quarterback, but maybe not. The Bears QB Jay Cutler is like a box of chocolates....you never know what you're going to get.
Let's look at some of Cutler's stats from this season: 12 TDs, 9 INT, 30 sacks, and 7 fumbles to go with a 61% passer rating and a little over 1900 yards passing. The Bears are 6-3 atop their division and 5-3 in the conference. It sounds relatively good...the standings at least, but you never know what you're going to get. Some games he is absolutely brilliant and you think why can't he do this every game. Then, the next game he looks like he doesn't know what to do on a football field and that the only place he can stand upright is on the sidelines.
Yes, a big majority of his problems ensue from the fact that the Bears offensive line this year is absolutely abysmal. They have not protected Cutler and in some games it almost appeared they were absent entirely. Cutler, though, is quite capable of making his own mistakes. Underthrown balls and throwing into extreme coverage just to get rid of the ball and having it picked off.
The Dolphins side of things is not much better at this point. They have lost 2 quarterbacks and are now down to Tyler Thigpen. He has attempted 12 passes this year, had 1 TD, and 1 INT appearing in only 2 games. He is rather wily though and he may bring a much needed spark of mobility to the Dolphins offense. The Dolphins are 5-4 in 3rd place in their division trailing the Jets and Patriots. If they could get this win, it would do a lot to boost their team confidence and perhaps give them the spark they need to go the rest of the way.
One thing is certain, Thursday night's game is going to be like a box of chocolates....you never know what you're gonna get.
