The NHL season is well underway and the conference standings are starting to take shape. There are several teams that have taken over the top spots, but several more are close behind and gaining ground.
In the Eastern Conference the top looks like this:
Washington 11-4, Philadelphia 9-4, Montreal 9-5. Washington has a 5 game win streak going and are 7-3 for their last 10 games. Philadelphia is 7-2-1 for their last 10 and Montreal is 6-4. Washington at the moment seems to have this conference well in hand.
The next tier in the Eastern Conference looks like this:
Tampa Bay 8-4, Boston 8-3, Ottawa 8-6, and Carolina 8-7. Ottawa is on a hot streak presently with a 4 game win streak and 7-3 for their last 10 games. Boston is 7-2-1 for their last 10, so they have been playing well also.
In the Western Conference the top looks like this:
Los Angeles 10-3, St. Louis 9-2, Vancouver 8-4. Los Angeles is on fire of late with a 4 game win streak and 8-2 for their last 10 games. St. Louis is 7-1-2 for their last 10 and Vancouver is 7-2-1.
The next tier of the Eastern Conference looks like this:
Detroit 9-3, Anaheim 9-7, Columbus 9-5, and Chicago 8-9. Anaheim is heating up with a 5 game win streak and 7-3 for their last 10. Detroit and Columbus are both 7-3 for their last 10 games, but Chicago has fallen on hard times of late and is 3-7 for their last 10 games.
There are still 5 months left in the 2010 NHL season and so there are many, many things that could change along the way. The early standings are just that early, but even in these you can see who just might be there at the end.
