Weather Patterns

by L DeSilva-Johnson (writer), Brooklyn, NY, November 05, 2010

The human seasons prove as unpredictable as the sun's.

Weather Patterns

Chart, Storm systems of

you and I, who shift like squalls:

Now thick like fog's soup,

now sun, when reports

call for thunder. Drenched and cold --

when just a moment

before, one revelled

in warmth on toes and eyelids,

(lest one lull too soon.)

No almanac guides

through these seasons of the heart,

no algorithm

foretells their chaos

beyond approximation.

Yet we venture out,

exhilirating:

thrilling to another's snows,

formula absent.

Ours an ecstatic

frustration: as grasses yearn,

await succor in

rain's so sweet relief

these droughts contain fulfillment

in promise alone.

Who portends to know

the whims of this, or weather,

will never love well.

The journey of life is always unpredictable, but that's what makes it worth it.
