Two matchups this weekend that are going to be excellent – or at least they look like they will on paper. One is for dominance of both the NFC South and possibly the entire NFC and the other is a smash mouth fight for the AFC West.
In the NFC South, the Falcons are currently on top of the standings just above the Buccaneers by virtue of standings in the division with the Falcons at 1-0 and the Bucs at 1-1. The Bucs have been making a lot of noise about how they are the best team in the entire NFC, while the Falcons have just been going about their business….more under the radar. The Falcons get very little respect in the NFC as most talking heads would have you believe that the Giants are the best team in the NFC because of their 4-0 conference record. Both the Bucs and Falcons are 3-1 in conference play and all three, Giants, Bucs, and Falcons have a 5-2 overall record. Whoever wins this game between the Bucs and Falcons takes over the NFC South and maybe takes over top spot in most minds in the NFC….unless it’s the Falcons, they just don’t get any respect.
The other matchup is going to be a smash mouth, hit you hard, hit you often contest between the Raiders and Chiefs. The Chiefs have been out in front all season long, but the Raiders are coming on strong in midseason. In fact, the Raiders are coming on like a hurricane. The Chiefs are on top of the AFC West with a 5-2 record while the Raiders are at 4-4. The Chiefs have been winning all season, defying all odds, making people say – the Chiefs, are you kidding me?! No, the Chiefs are not kidding. They are the real deal. A great balanced team. The Raiders on the other hand, were in a bit of disarray at the start of the season, but they have got themselves together and have been putting the literal beating on teams the last 2 weeks. First, they absolutely humiliated the Broncos in Denver and then they beat down the Seahawks. This weekend, it will be a clash of some old school style football….if I were some of the players I would start taking aspirin now. They are going to need it.
Just two of the games this weekend, but perhaps two of the best matchups of the year so far. Definitely, the games to watch.
