NLCS Preview - Phillies/Giants

The Phillies and Giants will take the same rotations into the championship series.

Both the Phillies and the Giants will take their same pitching rotation order into the NLCS. These rotations worked for both of them in the division series to great success. I think in this series though the outcome could be much different for the Giants.

The Phillies will go with no-hit/perfect game king of the majors Roy Halladay in game 1, and then, Oswalt, Hamels, and Blanton. Halladay will most certainly be Chuck Norris like and the odds are in his favor to have yet another no hit game. The Giants were only able to muster 11 runs in 4 games vs the Braves, who have some fairly decent pitching of their own. But Halladay is another story all together. The Giants will be hard pressed to get hits and even more so to get runs. The rest of the Phillies rotation is just as potent and the Giants have a huge task in front of them.

The Giants on the other hand go with their ace Lincecum for game 1 and then, Sanchez, Cain, and Baumgarner. This rotation held Atlanta to 9 runs in 4 games. Lincecum had 14 Braves strike outs in game one of the LCS. I don't think he will have the same success vs the Phillies however. In fact I don't think the Giants will have the same success vs the Phillies as they did the Braves. The Braves beat themselves more than the Giants beat them. They committed multiple errors and had multiple scoring opportunities on which they did not capitalize. The Phillies don't make those mistakes.

That's not to say that the Lincecum/Halladay matchup is not one of the most anticipated in years for the post season, but I do not see the "Freak" coming out on top. The no hit/perfect game "Doc" is going to show the kid and the Giants how it's done. And then, the Phillies are going to show the Giants the broom. Phillies sweep this series in 4.
