Scraping The Bottom

A look at the NFL teams at the bottom of the standings after Week 5.

The current NFL season has been topsy turvy to say the least. Many teams being upset on a weekly basis. You never know who might come out on top in any given game. There are a few teams though that have struggled all season and after week 5 they find themselves scraping the bottom.

East - The Buffalo Bills are now 0-5. The Bills have had their moments to try and win most notably against the Patriots where they scored 30 points and in this Sunday's game vs the Jags where they had the lead for most of the first half. The Bills have very little in the way of offensive weapons outside of CJ Spiller. Their season doesn't look to improve much.

North - The Cleveland Browns are 1-4 and they have played well in several games including this Sunday when they took down the Bengals. The Browns just can't quite seem to get it together to put more than a win in every 3 on the board. While not a terrible team, they just don't have the necessary cohesion to be a top contender.

South - The Tennessee Titans are in the bottom of this division, but that stat is misleading. Every team in this division has the exact same win-loss record, 3-2. The Titans are at the bottom by virtue of their conference standings at 1-2. This is one of the tightest divisions in the league and right now it's still anybody's to have.

West - The Denver Broncos are in much the same boat as the Titans. In this division, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place teams all hold a 2-3 record. The Broncos however are 1-3 in the conference. This has been their downfall. For much of the season, the Broncos have been up and down. This week they were down again. This division looks to be very fluid for much of the season.

East - The Dallas Cowboys are at the bottom. That's right, the Cowboys. They are now 1-3 and 0-2 in the conference. There cannot be a more disappointing NFL team this season. Dallas has had all the tools they need to win for the last 4 years and they just cannot do it. I'm still convinced that it's an internal chemistry problem. Some people on that team just don't like playing together and that's the bottom line.

North - The Detroit Lions are at the bottom at 1-4, but I'm here to tell you that this team is being underestimated and badly. They have played well in all their games. They won this Sunday and won big. They have all the tools they need to win and when Stafford is back, they will only be better. Write it down - the Lions could be the surprise of the NFL this season.

South - The Carolina Panthers are 0-5. They lost their starting QB and Jimmy Clausen has not been able to take hold of the reins as they hoped. The Panthers are 0-4 in the conference and it doesn't look to be getting better for them anytime soon.

West - The San Francisco 49ers are 0-5 their worst start since 1979. They have played some close tough games, but always seem to come out on the losing end of things. They are 0-4 in the division. The only saving grace is if they can right their ship they still might have a shot because the NFC West is the weakest division in football.

One thing is certain, this NFL season has been full of surprises and we may yet be surprised by who may end up scraping the bottom before it's over.
