How To Boost Your Self Esteem With Affirmations

Positive affirmation

Have you ever wanted to boost your self esteem but didn’t know where to start? Are you tired of always talking negatively about yourself? If so then this article on affirmations can really help.

When you consider the fact that low self esteem stems from a lot of negative messages being directed at you and being absorbed by the subconscious mind, it makes perfect sense does it not that bombarding your mind with positive messages can create a change.

Affirmations are a great way to bombard your mind with positive messages but the sad fact is that a lot of people don’t know what to say or how to word affirmations. In this article I want to give you some simple tips that you can use to word affirmations so that they are most effective. By using affirmations on a daily basis you will be able to improve your self esteem.

Tip #1: Use the present tense. The first thing that you need to remember is that affirmations need to be created in the present tense. It is no good saying “I will accept myself for who I am” as this makes it sound like you will do this someday. The correct wording should be “I accept myself for who I am”. You are making a statement in the present moment.

Tip #2: Your affirmations must be believable. There really is no point in saying an affirmation such as I am highly successful in my business if you don’t actually have a business. You have to believe in the affirmation even just a little bit or your subconscious mind will reject it. If you are saying, “I am a wonderful person with lots to offer” but you don’t really believe it you could try saying something like, “I am learning to appreciate my wonderful personality and I share it with confidence.”

Tip #3: Use emotion. The way you say the affirmations can have a great impact on their effectiveness. Don’t just say them, inject some emotion into them. Say them like you believe them. By adding emotion to the affirmations, you subconscious mind will accept them more.

Tip #4: Repeat, Repeat and Repeat. Once you have a list of the affirmations that you intend to use to boost your self esteem you need to use them. You should be saying them throughout the day and maybe even writing them down a number of times too. You have to remember the fact that the subconscious mind is used to the old negative messages and you want to install these new messages instead. It took time for the negative messages to take hold and the same is true for the new positive messages.

Tip #5: It takes time. The final tip that you have to remember is that it will take time to see significant results. It can take weeks before you begin to notice any difference at all. You need to stick with it though because you will start to see a gradual change in the way you think about yourself. You will start to feel more positive about yourself too and you will probably notice that other people will start to comment on the new you. This is when you will know for certain that your affirmations are working.

Affirmations are wonderful and they can be used for almost anything. If you haven’t tried them before why not take the time to create some positive and uplifting affirmations for your life and test them out.

This is fantastic. I do believe in these things, and I really enjoyed reading the way you gently instruct your readers to try affirmations, and how you emphasize the huge importance of repeat, believe, enforce and so on.

Keep them coming Amanda!

Amanda the Divine,

I needed to read this today, thank you very much Amanda. I'm so busy - and it's the kind of busy where I have to think and create new and effective phrasings in everything that pertains to my work. So I know you won't mind if I choose not to create my own affirmation, but instead borrow yours, thanks in advance, and you have a wonderful day!

Sincerely,

Yvonne de la Vega

A great article. I like how this breaks down what an affirmation is and how to make one. Other articles and books I've read on changing habits or self improvement just make mention of affirmations as if everyone knows what they are and how to make them. This is a great help to me!
