Patrisha woos the audience at Cafe Laurent

Cafe Laurent offers a getaway brunch to start the week

It was a lazy Sunday morning, and the church bells had already voiced a song. In the midst of the busy main streets, another song bird sweetly shares her melody with accompanying musicians sent from heaven on August 8, 2010 at the Cafe Laurent in the community of Culver City, CA.

I was oblivious to the hustle and bustle of the surrounding crowd as Patrisha Thomson gave a wonderful gift of standards, ballads, and original pieces to an attentive crowd. Her voice is one that conveys tenderness and acute awareness to melody, harmony, and the essence of each song. She lures you into the tune gently and convincingly.

The captivating musicians with her were a follows:

Steve Rawlins - Piano and Arranger

Jim De Julio - Bass

Bernie Dresel - Drums and Percussion

Patrisha Thomson - Vocals

Dory Caymmi's "Like a Lover" was portrayed with a soft sweetness. Steve on Piano was a stimulating accompaniment.

Jim on Bass provided connecting lines that complimented Patrisha's voice and Bernie on Drums had the perfect mix with brushwork.

Bruno Matrino's "Estate" was displayed with passion and true essence. How wonderful for a Sunday afternoon for lovers and singles to listen and bask in the moment of musical beauty.

"George Gershwin's "Fascinating Rhythm" filled with scatting, soulful licks, percussive grooves, and lyrical moves. There was lots of cool and very precise interaction between the vocalist and Jim, Steve, and Bernie in the syncopated rhythm section moving with Patrisha in a glorious satiated tone.

John Lennon's "Imagine" gave us a reflective moment and Carol King's "Natural Woman" was done with soul, sass, with an expressive knowing that is experienced through living, relationships, and deep awareness.

Jim on Bass shared a number of tantalizing solos along with Steve's enveloping style. Bernie's wonderful sense of every piece added a rich flavor to each enticing tune.

The quartet shared timeless music that totally engulfed the audience with each tune.

Cafe Laurent is a lovely getaway restaurant offering a delicious Sunday Brunch, great service, and pleasing ambiance. It is also open on weekdays Tuesday through Sunday for regular Breakfast and Lunch.

It's on the third Sunday of each month however; you can have a tasteful helping of authentic Jazz to go along with your meal.

Be sure and stop in for a wonderful experience.
