Thousands of locals and tourists as well worked off their extra serving of Thanksgiving leftovers, Sunday, November 29 at the 12th Annual Downtown on Ice at Pershing Square. You can also say that people were relaxing before returning to work. This also served as a reward for some after all of the wonderful bargains that they acquired on Black Friday.
Attendees at Pershing Square had the extra treat of being entertained by Bobby Rivas and His Salsa Band. Event organizers had to lower the temperature several degrees on the ice rinks, to prevent the ice from melting as a result of the fiery hot Latin rhythms served up by vocalist Bobby Rivas and his tight band. Mr. Rivas was aided and abetted by Sandy Stein-keyboards, John Belzaguy-bass, Nacho Ontiveros-drums, Christian Moraga-percussions, and the wind section of Eric Jorgensen-trombone, Ramon Flores-trumpet, and Rick Rossi on sax. The band played two sets which consisted of salsa standards and a good smorgasbord of hits from Bobby Rivas extensive catalog.
I have been attending the Downtown on Ice for several years. I enjoy the venue because of its eclectic music series. You can enjoy the Lunchtime concerts, Thursday and Friday Night concerts. There is also a Saturday Youth Program in addition to the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series.
