2nd Annual Gingerbread Contest

  2nd Annual Gingerbread House Contest Saturday Dec 5 at the Wilbur D. May Museum.   Sponsored by the Rancho San Rafael Botanical Society.   There are three returning categories, children 11 years and under, teens 12 to 18 years and adults.  The houses will be judged for overall appearance, originality, creativity and craftsmanship.  There are ribbons and prizes for placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  This year we added a new category, commercial baker.  The top commercial bakers' houses will have ribbons and will be raffled off at the end of the contest.  Holiday Tuba Celebration:  Saturday December 5, 2009 10:00-4:00
*The May Museum and the Botanical Society are collaborating a festive celebration and sing along.  The museum will be decorated for the holidays and will open at 10:00a.m. with an art exhibit and Gingerbread house display.  Starting at 1:00 p.m. the festivities begin and include entertainment from Santa's elves, face painting and an activity table for the children.  Cookies and beverages will be served.  The Gingerbread House Contest winners will be announced at 2:30.  At 3:00 the real party begins when over thirty tuba players will lead a holiday sing along.  So put on your best holiday attire and come join in the fun.

~ How to Enter ~

 Entry forms are due by November 30th. Gingerbread Houses must be turned in by Friday, December 4th to the Wilbur D. May Museum between 1:00 and 4:00 pm. Entry forms may be picked-up at the following locations:

 There is a $5 registration fee. Proceeds support the Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Please make checks payable to “Washoe County.” Cash & credit cards accepted at the May Museum.

 ~ Prizes, Prizes, Prizes ~

 We are honored to have Johnathan Wright, Food & Drink Editor for the Reno Gazette-Journal, Tim Carmen, El Dorado Hotel Casino Pastry Chef and Anne Petrik from MomsLikeMe as our judges. Judging will take place at the May Museum from 11:00 - noon on Saturday, December 5th. Entries will be ranked based on Overall Appearance, Originality, Creativity and Craftsmanship.

 Ribbons and prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category.

 Children 11 and under 1st place prize: $25 Target Gift Card from MomsLikeMe.com plus and a MomsLikeMe Gift Package for Mom

2nd and 3rd place prizes: $10 Target Gift Cards

 Teenagers age 12-18 1st place prize: $30 in tokens and 5 free laser game tags from Grand Sierra Resort Hotel Casino Fun Quest

2nd and 3rd place prizes: 2 Cinemark Theater-Riverside movie tickets

 Adult 1st place prize: Lunch for Two at Nothing To It Culinary Center and dinner for two at the El Dorado Hotel Casino.

2nd and 3rd place prizes: El Dorado Hotel Casino dinners for two.

 Commercial Bakers Houses will be raffled off to benefit Wilbur D. May Arboretum.
