Latin Grammy ® Street Parties Tour
Los Angeles-Historic Olvera Street was the host site for the 7th Annual Latin Grammy Street Party, October 18, 2009. Tony Pozuelas served as Master of Ceremony. This was the fourth stop of a five city tour leading up to the 10th Annual Latin Grammy Awards®, airing live from The MGM in Las Vegas on November 5th on the Univision Network. This month long celebration highlighted the enthusiasm, excellence and diversity of the U.S. Hispanic communities. Additional tour cities were West New York, NJ, Chicago, Hialeah, Fla., and Dallas; and for the first time in Latin Grammy Street Parties history, the festival will take place on November 1 at the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas, the host city for the 2009 Latin Grammy Awards®.
The event featured a mixture of musical genres from all over Latin America. The tour stop in Los Angeles featured performances by Sophia Del Carmen, Los Vagos de Tijuana, Agina, Ruben de la Cruz, Jesse Morales “El Original de Sierra”, and Conjunto Atardecer, radio personality Piolin, Los Cuates de Sinaloa, Conjunto Azabache and K-Paz de la Sierra. A special performance by 3 year old Jose Alfredo was featured for one song that held his own amongst the veteran musicians.
Thousands enjoyed the live entertainment and took part in the inter-active booths of Verizon, signed up for a free trip at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority booth. Others participated in the State Farm Exhibit booth that featured inter active displays of Guitar Hero and DJ Hero.
For the third consecutive year, DJ Frankie Needles was chosen to host and DJ the McDonald’s Latin Grammy Street Parties Tour! McDonald’s another sponsor of the Latin Grammy Street Parties and the 10th Annual Latin Grammy Awards®, showcased The Fiesta Tour McDonald’s. There was a four part component of Fiesta Tour McDonald’s. DJ Frankie Needles played tracks so that the crowd could bust a dance move or two on the inter active dance area. The crowd lined up to spend the virtual wheel to win some great prize items. Information was available about the RMHC/HACER Scholarship Program- you can apply online at www.meencanta.com. Last but not least, I had the privilege/pleasure of joining hundreds in touring the 50-plus foot tour bus awesome exhibit, which is a walk-through display of unique artifacts and memorabilia loan by Latin musicians organized by decades from the 1940’s to the present. Some of the Latin music’s greatest stars who loan memorabilia to the exhibit consists of Celia Cruz, Ricky Martin, Frankie Needles, Alejandro Sans, Gloria Estefan, Cristian Castro, Beto Cuevas, Carlos Vives and Ivy Queen just to name a few.
The 2009 Latin Grammy Street Parties are presented by McDonald’s. Official sponsors include Verizon Wireless, State Farm Insurance and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
