Los Angeles Lakers Fans Got Game

Street ballers from all over Los Angeles played in the inaugural Lakers 3on3 Basketball Tournament, August 14-16, on 50 courts set up around L.A. Live, Downtown Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Lakers Fans Got Game

                Los Angeles-The inaugural Lakers 3on3 Basketball Tournament presented by NIKE was held on a hot weekend, August 14-16, 2009. Coca Cola, Powerade and Vitamin Water were in attendance to insure that everyone stayed hydrated. A portion of player registration fees were donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California. Parks and gyms were missing a lot of basketball players this weekend. It seems like the entire street ballers were all downtown for this event. Players came from all over Los Angeles and surrounding cities.

                The inter-active event took place on the streets of Staples Center and L.A. LIVE. The event kicked off Friday afternoon with Team Captains picking up information packages for their team. Entertainment was provided by Los Angeles Lakers Girls, E Kidz, Ole Skool Crew and SparKIDS. Galaxy Footboleros performed some amazing tricks with soccer balls to the delight of the audience. Scottie B served as Master of Ceremonies all weekend. He gave away a lot of prizes to members of the crowd. The prizes consisted on gift certificates to LA LIVE venues, Lakers tickets and other memorabilia.

                Saturday, first game started at 8:00am. Other activities featured were a clinic led by A.C Green, Nike Olympics, Dance off & Skills Challenge, Nike Slam Dunk Open Try-Outs, E Team Extreme Dunk Team to oohs and aahs of the crowd, and VIP Tickets Celebrity Round Robin. E Entertainment League Productions brought in the E-League Players.  Celebrities in attendance were Brian White, Frankie Delgado, Donald Faison, Jay Harrington, Zac Levi, Clark Gregg, Joel David Moore, Cory Hardrict, Drew Lachey, Robbie Jones, Kenny Johnson, Sugar Shane Mosley, Josh Hutcherson, Sal Masakela, David Arguette, James Lesure, Jon Huertas, Bobby Edner, Bryce Soderberg, Ben Carey, Arlen Escarpeta, Michael B. Jordon, James Kyson Lee, Thad Luckinbill, Roger Cross, Wood Harris, Josh Morrow, Sam Daly, Travis Van Winkle, Jamie Kennedy, Jarod Einsoln and Brandon Routh. Musical performances were provided by Joanna with special guest Mark Ballas and All 4 One.

                Also on Saturday, at 1P.M. on Nike Center Court at Nokia Plaza L.A. LIVE, Lakers Legend Kurt Rambis was honored in a special ceremony for his tremendous play and commitment to the Los Angeles Lakers. Patrick O’Neal, FOX Sports Net was the host of the event. Mike Davis, Assemblymember, 48th District presented Kurt Rambis with a Certificate of Recognition. Michael Roth, AEG V.P of Communication presented Kurt Rambis with a Proclamation from the City of Los Angeles.  A.C. Green and Cedric Ceballos shared fond memories of their association with Kurt Rambis who is leaving the Lakers to become Head Coach of Minnesota Timberwolves.

                Sunday, the final day of the inaugural Lakers 3on3 Basketball Tournament presented by NIKE featured NIKE Slam Dunk Contest, McDonald’s Mascot Game and Dunk Competition, E-League Celebrity 3 Point Shot Contest which was won by Michael Westphal. Musical performances were by New Boyz, appearances by L.A. Lakers Girls, Galaxy Players, Chivas Players, and King ICE Crew. LA SOL was presented with a Champion Trophy for the Regular Season. Awards were also presented to the winners in each Division who were competing for over $100,000 in prizes. There were four categories Standard, NIKE Elite, Special Olympics and Wheelchair. Three categories of participants were competing: adults, high school, and youth. Everyone participating in the Lakers3on3 Basketball Players was all winners, as they left the tournament with some wonderful experiences.
