It is no secret that CNN has joined the rank and file of ABC, CBS and NBC in the tank for liberals when it comes to political news. But every once in a while, a gem of a story comes out and it just has to be addressed. It doesn’t happen very often what with veteran anchor Wolf Blitzer almost as transparently liberal as Dan Rather, but it does happen.
Today on CNN’s Late Edition, Wolf Blitzer was speaking with Obama Campaign Adviser Linda Douglass and McCain Economic Adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer about the economic plans of both campaigns. As usual these two women were engaged in a verbal catfight over who has the better plan. They went back and forth with such accusations as, “that’s absolutely not true” and “that’s not the point”, but one thing stood out among all the accusations.
Blitzer brought up the point that Pfotenhauer is a former lobbyist who is one of seven lobbyists working on the McCain campaign. The point was emphasized because Pfotenhauer’s photograph appeared in an Obama attack campaign complaining of the lobbyist influence on McCain. Pfotenhauer pointed out that 1) there are lobbyists working for the Obama campaign as well and 2) unlike Obama, at least McCain has disclosed the list of his campaign advisers. Douglass then interjected that Obama does not take money from political action committees (PACs) or lobbyists and she lamented that McCain has not pledged to do the same.
Here is where the conversation got interesting. The Obama camp refuses to disclose the names of his campaign advisers like McCain has done. He knows full well that he has lobbyists working on his campaign but he likes being able to attack McCain for having lobbyists. He thinks it gives him ammunition to scare people into believing that with McCain, it will be politics as usual. But if Obama has lobbyists working for him he has to keep it quiet, which he has done, so that people don’t wake up and realize that with Obama, it will be politics as usual.
In the same discussion, Douglass also mentions that she can’t understand why McCain hasn’t signed a pledge not to accept campaign contributions from PACs and lobbyists the way Obama does. Pfotenhauer countered with, “I’m surprised that you would ask Senator McCain to sign a pledge when Senator Obama pledged that he would use public funds for his campaign then when it was in his best interests not to use public funds, he threw that pledge over the side of the boat.”
The fact of the matter is this. There is going to be hypocrisy in every election cycle. It’s just there. It’s as certain as death and taxes. Both sides are going to say something that the other side is going to pounce upon and point fingers and scream “hypocrite!” It’s the double-standard issue that has been prevalent in American politics for years but has only become more pronounced since the 2006 mid-term elections.
California Senator Dianne Feinstein even participated in the hypocrisy on the same program this morning. Senator Feinstein and Tennessee Republican Representative Marsha Blackburn were going back and forth over Sarah Palin. Feinstein adamantly defended the vetting process to which Palin has been subjected for the last two weeks saying that she believes that every politician should go through the vetting process, “just as Geraldine Ferraro went through it.” But one thing stood out as obvious as a Mack truck: Feinstein never once stated, alluded to, hinted at or even mentioned that Barack Obama should have to go through the vetting process.
Barack Obama has never been vetted by the liberal press.
Everyone knows John McCain and Joe Biden. The vetting process for them has been going on for years. At one time, it was revealed that Joe Biden is the smartest man in the world. Just ask him, he’ll tell you. Everyone knows McCain’s past as a Vietnam War POW.
But who is Barack Obama? Why is it that the liberal press is scrutinizing Sarah Palin down to making up lies about her firing a librarian and reinstating her after being pressured to do so when in reality she rescinded firing less than 24 hours later but the liberal press has given Barack Obama a “get out of vetting free card”? Why has Obama been allowed to run a campaign that operates covertly in so many ways? Why, as Pfotenhauer point-blank asked Douglass this morning, hasn’t Obama released his list of advisers like McCain has done? Why does Obama demand that his wife, Michelle, not be criticized for her “proud of my country” comment and her “America is a downright mean country in 2008” comment claiming that family is to be off limits, but he says nothing about the scrutiny of Palin’s 17-year-old pregnant daughter? Why can’t anyone on the streets of America define what Obama means by “change”?
The answers to those questions all come back to the same conclusion. Certainly Obama intends to invoke change in America and he is being covert about everything because he doesn’t want Americans to wake up and realize that his change will be to implement the largest socialist government the world has ever known.
Yes, there is hypocrisy from both sides in every election cycle but the deeper one looks into this particular cycle, the more apparent it becomes that Democrats are operating under a cover of darkness, shadow, mystery and covertness as they continue to pull the wool over the eyes of the people. Americans are not mushrooms – they do not deserve to be kept in the dark and fed male bovine fecal material.
