Tall, Dark, Handsome and FUNNY…Jealous anyone?

by Stephanie Michele (writer), Venice, November 13, 2006

Today on CNN.com a writer asks the question, is Dane Cook the funniest man in America? The author of the article then proceeds to give all the reasons why Dane Cook is a terrible comedian. He accuses Dane of plagiarism and being a marketing genius not a comic genius.

Regardless if you think Dane Cook is funny or not you may find this article funny. A jaded and jealous ex-lover could not have written a better piece. I can't tell you how many times I have been in discussions with both men trying to figure out how to win a woman's attention and women trying to determine what they want in man, where both have asked the same question, "Can a man be sexy and funny at the same time?" The task is not impossible but certainly difficult at best. “Funny” has a way of crossing the line at key “sexy” moments.

I like Dane Cook. I think he is funny. I also think he is a good looking man. If he is a marketing genius on top of that, well then he might just be the perfect man – Handsome, Intelligent and Funny! Did that make a certain writer a little jealous? If Ryan Seacrest can break the “face for radio” sterotype, I think Dane should get a little credit for making funny the new sexy, or maybe it is the other way around? No matter, Dane get my vote either way.

I watched Dane Cook's most recent special "Vicious Circle" and I found most of his jokes to be mildly funny at best. There's no denying his ability to tell a story, but his replay value is lukewarm at best. I would venture to say that he is much closer to the "funny guy" in your social group (dare I say fraternity?) than he is to a comic genius. Still, he is extremely polished, and I can't knock the guy for his commitment, even if he is committed to mediocre material.
