Why Must America Win?

by D. E. Carson (writer), , May 02, 2008

I wish I could claim authorship of this letter, but I cannot.

Many of you, my readers, think you know me. You have prejudged me in your mind that I am some sort of radical right-wing neo-con. Your assessment could not be further from the truth. I am a proud American who demands that the United States wake up from its complacent arrogance and realize what we are up against. I am not reprinting this out of passion as I have read and researched much – long before this letter came to me. This letter is lengthy and will take time to read, but read it you must if you wish to understand who I really am. I, too, was a bleeding heart liberal in my younger years. I voted for Michael Dukakis against George Herbert Walker Bush in 1988 and voted for William Jefferson Clinton in 1992. During the first Clinton term, I began to realize liberals were NOT the savior of America – they are the scourge of America and they will have the blood of innocent Americans on their hands. I watched Bill Clinton eviscerate our military and by the time he was up for re-election in 1996, I cast my ballot for Robert Dole. It was the first time anyone in my family voted Republican but I began to realize that the Democratic Party was no longer speaking for me. In the immortal words of Ronald Reagan, “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me.” America is a noble nation with a good heart but it is no secret that if you take the time to read and research for yourself, you will find that what is written in this letter is truth.

The letter is long enough as it is and I cannot add to its message. Therefore, I will bow out and let the author of the letter take it from here.

DEC

Dear family,

As one who loves you, I owe it to you to share some thoughts on the present world situation. We have over the years discussed some important things but this really takes precedence over any of those discussions. Please understand that this is not politically flavored.

There’s a lot you don’t know about my politics – past and present. As you know, I was raised by politically and socially conservative parents. But when I reached nineteen I thought I knew more than they did, and became extremely liberal in all things social and political. I felt strongly about such issues as the Vietnam war (against); the death penalty (against); government welfare (for); etc. I felt our government was invading the sanctity of another sovereign nation when we went into Vietnam. I felt that blacks were unfairly treated in every aspect of their lives, and deserved monetary compensation by the whites. So I voted for George McGovern and Jimmy Carter (the two most liberal presidential candidates we’ve ever had). But, during the Reagan era I began to realize that I had been an immature idealist all those years; that welfare simply left its victims without skills, goals, or self-worth; that the Communists of China and Vietnam would have enslaved an entire nation of people who desperately wanted democracy, and were willing to fight to the death for it.

I am reminded of what a world renowned statesman once said – “if a man at 20 is not a liberal he has no heart, but if that man at 40 is not a conservative he has no brain”. That exactly describes my own metamorphous. Having been both a liberal and a conservative I am familiar with the rationale of each. This letter is not intended to convert you from one point of view to the other. So be sure you read this as being completely non-political or otherwise you will miss the point.

Our country is now facing the most serious threat to its existence that we have ever faced (which includes WWII). That threat is continued terrorist attacks within our borders. There is absolutely no doubt in the minds of all those within our intelligence organizations that we will not only have another 9/11 – but that we are likely to have many more 9/11s.

When did the terror threats to us start?

Many will say September 11th, 2001. The answer, as far as the United States is concerned, is 1979 (22 years prior to September 2001), with the following attacks on the U.S.:

American Embassy Hostages in Iran (for 440 days) in 1979

American Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983 – (killed American diplomats and employees)

American Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983 – (slaughtered American Marines)

Lockerbie, Scotland, Pan-Am flight to New York in 1988 – (bombed by Libya)

1st New York World Trade Center attack in 1993 –

Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Khobar Towers Military complex in 1996 –

Nairobi, Kenya US Embassy in 1998 –

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania US Embassy in 1998 –

Aden, Yemen, USS Cole in 2000 --

New York World Trade Center in 2001 --

Pentagon in 2001 --

During the period from 1981 to 2001 there were 7,581 terrorist attacks on Americans worldwide. Thousands of Americans have died in these attacks.

Why were we attacked?

Envy of our position, our success, and our freedoms, as well as the hatred of our values and morals. The attacks happened during the administrations of Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton and Bush 2. We cannot fault either the Republicans or Democrats as there were no provocations by any of the presidents or their immediate predecessors.

Who were the attackers?

In every case, the attacks on the U.S. were carried out by Arab Muslims.

What is the Muslim population of the World?

25%, and growing faster than any other segment

Isn't the Muslim religion peaceful?

Hopefully, but that is really not material. There is no doubt that the predominately Christian population of Germany was peaceful, but under the dictatorial leadership of Hitler (who was also Christian) that made no difference. You either went along with Hitler’s ethnic cleansing goal or you too were eliminated. There were between 5 and 6 million Christians killed by the Nazis (including 7,000 Polish priests). Thus, almost the same number of Christians were killed by the Nazis, as the 6 million holocaust Jews who were killed by them, and we seldom hear of anything other than the atrocities against the Jews. Although Hitler kept the world focused on the Jews, he had no hesitancy about killing anyone who got in his way of exterminating the Jews, or his goal of taking over the world -- German, Christian, or otherwise.

Same with the Muslim terrorists. They focus the world on the U.S., but kill all in their way -- their own people, or the English, Spanish, French, or anyone else. The point here is that (just as the peaceful Germans were no protection from the Nazis) no matter how many peaceful Muslims there may be they will be no protection for us from the terrorist Muslim leaders and what they are fanatically bent on doing.

So who are we at war with?

There is no way we can honestly respond that it is anyone other than Muslim terrorists. Trying to be politically correct and avoid verbalizing this conclusion can well be fatal. There is no way to win if you don't clearly recognize and articulate whom you are fighting.

Can we lose this war? Yes. We can definitely lose this war, and as anomalous as it may sound, the major reason we can lose is that so many of us simply do not fathom the answer to the question – “What does losing mean”? It would appear that a great many of us think that losing the war means hanging our heads in disgrace, bringing the troops home and going on about our business, like post-Vietnam. This is as far from the truth as one can get.

What losing really means is that the attacks will not subside, but rather will steadily increase. Remember, they want us dead, not just quiet. The plan is to terrorist attack us until we are neutered and submissive to them. We would of course have no future support from other nations for fear of reprisals to them. They would see us as impotent and without ability to help them. The terrorists will pick off the other non-Muslim nations, one at a time. It is becoming increasingly easier for them to do so.

They already hold Spain hostage. It doesn't matter whether it was right or wrong for Spain to withdraw its troops from Iraq. Spain did it because the Muslim terrorists bombed their train stations and told them to withdraw their troops. Anything else they want Spain to do, will be done. Spain is finished.

The British are just now beginning to realize that they have home-grown Muslim terrorists within their borders that will stop at nothing to murder innocent Britains, and bring down their democracy. You only have to look at the most recent train and subway bombings, and other attacks, to see that this is only the beginning of what will become a routine occurrence.

The next will be France. Our one hope for France is that they might see the light and realize that if the US doesn't win, they are finished too. They can't resist the Muslim terrorists without our help. However, it may already be too late for France. France is 20% Muslim at this time and that number is increasing fast. It has been predicted that within 10 years the Muslims in France will politically control the government and have access to France’s nuclear arsenal. If we don't win this war right now, keep a close eye on how the Muslims take over France. They took French hostages and threatened to behead them if France didn’t rescind a new law that was to be enacted. The French gave in to their threat and that will start more kidnappings followed by threats of beheadings. Because it works with the French (and the Spanish). And it will go on and on until France has no resistance left. They will continue to increase the Muslim population of France and continue to encroach little by little on the established French traditions. The French will be fighting among themselves over what should or should not be done, which will continue to divide and weaken them, and keep them from any united resolve. Doesn't that sound eerily familiar?

Can Russia be far behind? The Muslim Chechnian Rebels in Russia sent 18 terrorists (with bombs strapped around their waists) into a Russian school filled with children on their first day of school. Altogether they had 400 hostages and threatened to blow themselves up, along with the children, unless their demands were met. They ultimately killed almost all of the children. If the Muslim terrorists in Russia take control that country, they will then have access to Russia’s huge nuclear arsenal. But unlike the Russians, they will not be afraid to use those weapons against us. If they die in a nuclear exchange – so what? They’re prepared to die for Allah to rid the world of infidels.

If we lose the war, our production, income, exports and way of life will all vanish. After losing, who would trade or deal with us, if to do so would mean they would be punished by the Muslims? If we can't stop the Muslims, how could anyone else? The Muslims fully know what is riding on this war and therefore are completely committed to winning at any cost. We better know it too and be likewise committed to winning at any cost. Congress’s 9/11 Commission report claims that Al Qaeda’s stated goal is to kill not less than 4,000,000 (that's four million) Americans in America, and that they have all the patience required to get the job done no matter how many years it takes. Al Qaeda daily exhorts all Muslims to kill all Americans no matter where we are, until the last one of us is dead. Al Qaeda’s membership is growing at an alarming rate. Young Muslims, and young non-Muslims, are joining the terrorist organizations in great numbers every day. The promise of ever-lasting life apparently holds great appeal to them.

Why do I go on at such lengths about the results of losing? Simple. Until we recognize the costs of losing, we cannot unite and really put 100% of our thoughts and efforts into winning. And it is going to take that 100% effort to win.

So, how can we lose the war? Again, the answer is simple. We can lose the war by imploding. That is, by defeating ourselves in refusing to recognize the enemy and their purpose, and failing to dig in and lend full support to the battle against this enemy. But, if we are united, there is no way we can lose. It will be you and your generation that must have the stomach, and resolve, to win this war for your childrens’ sake. If we continue to be divided, there is no way we can win.

Let me give you a few examples of how we simply don't comprehend the life and death seriousness of this situation. President Bush selected Norman Mineta as Secretary of Transportation. Although all of the terrorist attacks were committed by Arab Muslim men between 17 and 40 years of age, Secretary Mineta refused to allow racial or ethnic profiling. U.S. airports must search and screen even 90 year-old white ladies, babies, and well-known Senators, in the same ratio as middle-eastern men. Does that sound like we are taking this thing seriously?

This is war. For the duration we are going to have to give up some of the civil rights we have become accustomed to. We had better be prepared to lose some of our civil rights temporarily or we will most certainly lose all of them permanently. And don't worry that it is a slippery slope. We gave up plenty of civil rights during WWII and immediately restored them after the victory.

Do I blame President Bush or President Clinton before him? No, I blame us for blithely assuming we can maintain all of our Political Correctness, and all of our civil rights during this conflict, and have a clean, lawful war. None of those words apply to war against terrorism. We must get those words out of our heads. Clean, lawful war means no harm comes to the innocent, aged, women, or children – but only to uniformed soldiers (as dictated by The Geneva Convention). Do the Muslim terrorists respect those rules? Of course not. Children are legitimate targets -- for they simply grow up to become adult infidels, and women give birth to children, don't they?. And the terrorists are not uniformed soldiers. In fact, they are not soldiers at all. Many are 12 year olds brain-washed to think they were born to die for Allah. Or they are men and women who have been led to believe that their destiny is to enjoy a better life in heaven – as a reward for killing infidels. They are everywhere and they are nowhere. They belong to every country and they belong to no country. They are impossible to detect. They are willing, eager even, to die for their cause. Threatening to kill them or do them harm doesn’t bother them in the slightest. You can’t negotiate with them because it’s their way or no way. Trying to appeal to them by showing them our sensitive side, and showing them how we’re really nice, caring people is to be naive. They don’t care to understand us, don’t want our money or friendship – they simply want us dead. Because we’re not Arab or Muslims. They point out how we are soft, weak, and immoral. They point out our national obsession with porn, sex, alcohol, and immoral dress. They claim we are not entitled to live, and that to kill us is not murder, but simply Allah’s will.

Some misguided Americans have gone so far in their criticism of the war, and the current Administration, that it almost seems they would literally like to see us lose. I hasten to add that this isn't because they are disloyal. It is because they just don't recognize what losing means. Nevertheless, that conduct gives the impression to the enemy that we are divided and weak. Plus it concerns our allies, and does great damage to our cause.

The uproar fueled by some politicians and media regarding the treatment of some prisoners of war perhaps exemplifies best what I am saying. We have recently had an issue involving the treatment of a few Muslim prisoners of war by a small bunch of our military police. These are the type of prisoners who were throwing their own people off buildings, cutting off their hands, cutting out their tongues and otherwise murdering their own people just for disagreeing with their cause. And just a few years ago these same type prisoners chemically killed 400,000 of their own people for the same reason. They are also the same type enemy fighters who burned Americans and dragged their charred corpses through the streets of Iraq. And the same type enemy that was and is providing videos to all news sources internationally, of the beheading of American and European prisoners they held.

Compare this with some of our press and politicians who talk about nothing but the "humiliating" of some Muslim prisoners -- not burning them, not dragging their charred corpses through the streets, not beheading them, but "humiliating" them. Can this be for real? Some politicians insisted on the impeachment of our Secretary of Defense and ultimately drove him out of office. If this doesn't show a complete lack of comprehension and understanding of the seriousness of the enemy we are fighting, the life and death struggle we are in, and the disastrous results of losing this war, nothing can. To bring our country to a virtual political standstill over Iraq makes us look like Nero playing his fiddle as Rome burned -- totally oblivious to what is going on in the real world. Neither we, nor any other country, can survive this internal strife. Again I say, this does not mean that some of our politicians or media people are disloyal. It simply means that they are absolutely oblivious to the magnitude of the situation. Remember, the Muslim terrorists stated goal is to kill all infidels. That translates into all non-Muslims -- not just in the United States, but throughout the world. We, the British and the Israelis are the last bastions of defense for the world.

We have been criticized for many years for being 'arrogant'. That charge is valid in at least one respect. We are arrogant in that we believe that we are so good, powerful and smart, that we can win the hearts and minds of all those who attack us, and that with both hands tied behind our back, we can defeat anything bad in the world. We can't if we can’t see or find the enemy. If we don't recognize this, our nation as we know it will not survive, and no other free country in the World will survive if we are defeated.

This has been a long way of saying that we must be united on this war or we will be equated in the history books to the self-inflicted fall of the Roman Empire. If, that is, the Muslim leaders will allow history books to be written or read.

Democracies don't have their freedoms taken away from them by some external military force. Instead, they give their freedoms away, politically correct piece by politically correct piece. And they are giving those freedoms away to those who have shown, worldwide, that they abhor freedom and will not apply it to you or even to themselves, once they are in power. They have universally shown that when they have taken over, they then start brutally killing each other over who will be the few who control the masses. Of course there aren’t any Muslim countries that allow freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of religion, freedom of the Press, equal rights for everyone, equal status (or any status) for women, or that have been productive in one single way that contributes to the good of the World. (There are 64 Muslim countries, none of which are a Democracy, with the lone exception of Iraq -- now.)

Will we ever stop hearing from the Politically Correct, about the "peaceful Muslims"?

I close on a hopeful note, by repeating what I said above. If we are united, there is no way that we can lose. I continue to hope that after the election, the divisive factions in our country will begin to focus on the critical situation we are in and will unite to save our country. It is your future, and the lives of your children that we are talking about. I have lived a full life and it doesn’t matter what my future holds, but you must do whatever you can to protect your family. You must vote in November, and you must vote for the candidate you know will be the most likely to see that your babies can grow up in safety and freedom. This is the absolute most critical time in the history of civilization. You must rise to the occasion.

With all my love,

G.

The question isn't "Why must America win?" The question is, "Can America win?" We entered into a war on a faulty premise and bogus intelligence in search of a nebulous enemy. You can't just give guns to a bunch of 18- and 19-year-old kids, tell them to "kill the terrorists" and expect some positive result. However, the White House is still telling us everything is fine. Iraq is not in better shape. America is not in better shape, particularly since we are relying on foreign money to fund this war. If this is what "fine" looks like, what will it be when things are miserable. I think another question to consider is not only "Can America win?" but also "What will victory in this war look like?"

There are some spectacular points, which I agree with BUT I also offer up some questions….

I read on America.gov that as much as 12,000 citizens of Iraq are to be admitted into the U.S.   This is fine, so long as there aren’t some terrorists in the bunch…but how will we know?   Whose to say that in this group a few al quada members posing as “Iraq refugees” might not slip in?   I guess what scares me is that we are at war and in a such a crucial time we are still told to be “politically correct”, even though the consequences may be another future terrorist attack.

In 1942, the U.S. government ordered more than 110,000 Japanese American men, women, and children citizens and resident Japanese aliens during World War II to leave their homes and detained them in remote, military-style camps.  Did this protect us?  Was it a solution?   Obviously, this was very cruel, but how do we (in this day and age) separate the bad from the good?

So DEC, I question….how do we win when the borders are being opened with potential risks?   How is the nation supposed to protect ourselves if we are not even able to ask questions to anyone of that nationality without being called prejudice or slapped with a discrimination lawsuit, etc?  How do you fight an enemy that doesn’t care about death?

The letter offers up the setup and the solution of uniting…..but it’s beyond that.  It’s also having a solid strategy and a solid leader.  I don’t doubt America winning, but what I’m still trying to figure out for this November is which candidate will get us there?

Gary: Our reason for being in Iraq is valid.  You have to remember the information for why we went in was this: the national intelligence estimate (NIE) said there was a "high probability" that there were WMDs.  There is no such thing as an NIE with 100% certainty.  Cannot be done, period.  The intelligence that was used by George W. Bush was the same intelligence that Hillary Clinton saw when she voted to approve military action into Iraq.  The president had nothing up his sleeve or behind his back.  The reason for going in was to get Hussein out.  He had violated 19 United Nations resolutions (remember the United Nations?  That One World Government agency that is supposed to be helping in this situation and yet is sitting on its thumbs acting like Pontius Pilot, washing its hands of the whole deal while Bush is being sent to be crucified by liberals).  The United Nations initially put its blessing on America going into Iraq as part of a COALITION which began to collapse when gutless nations like France and Spain began turning their backs on the whole deal.  Once the rest of the world began pulling out of Iraq, the UN turned on the USA like a rattlesnake on its handler.  I do find it interesting, though, that the UN has never condemned the USA for the whole of Iraq.  Why do you suppose that is?  Because they know they're responsible for America being there in the first place.  They also know that America cannot just pull out of Iraq.  Again, the argument of whether we should even be there is a waste of air.  We are there and we have to come up with an exit strategy that will not get thousands, if not millions of Iraqis killed and give al-Qaeda a place to set up shop.  The biggest issue is that Iraq is a muslim nation and America is a Christian nation.  Muslims have no vested interest in seeing democracy flourish in the middle east because democracy and capitalism are diameteric opposites to the muslim religious system.  In order of islam to flourish, it must work in a totalitarian state.  There can be only one leader in islam.  Christianity on the other hand is built on the notion of helping others get what they want.  If you take your eyes off yourself and help others get what they want, you will get what you want -- that is what Christianity teaches.  Islam is diametericly opposed to the sacrifice self to help others.  Islam teaches everyone for himself and to hell with everyone else.  It would take a conversion of all of Iraq to Christianity to get a true democracy to work in Iraq.  Until then, it cannot, BUT there has to be something in the struggle for the Iraqis to want bad enough in order for them to take the responsibility necesary for America to stand down over there.  That is our exit strategy: we find what the Iraqis really want and help them get it and we can come home.  It really is that simple.

Lila:  The problem with our borders is that they are already so open that al-Qaeda can already walk in like they own the place (remember the 9/11 nineteen?).  Trust me, al-Qaeda is already coming and going as they please in and out of America.  They don't need to hide under a cover if Iraqi refugees.  Which is why America really needs to secure its borders first.  I've promised a true lashing of John McCain.  Should he become president and not fix our borders in a proper manner within the first 100 days of his administration, I assure you, I will lash that boy so that he'll wish he was back in Hanoi.  I know that Clinton and Obama won't do a damn thing about the borders.  They're liberals and liberals want open border anarchy, so don't look to them to solve the border issue.  Liberals are worthless when it comes to preserving America's sovereignty.  McCain may very well be too.

It would be nice if liberal Democrats would actually look at this definition and live it.  I remember when I was a liberal and I believed all of that.  Problem is, modern liberals in America have become Marxist socialists.  Even funnier is that modern conservatives are more closely aligned with this definition of liberal that liberals are.  Like Reagan said, "I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me."

Besides, I'm more closely aligned with libertarians (not Libertarians) than I am conservatives.
