by jhonsonjohn7590 (writer), , November 20, 2018

Find out the main dangers on the Internet that affect children and adolescents.

We all know the various advantages of the Internet, especially for those born in the 90s or earlier. However, just as we find benefits, as in all scenarios where humans are, there are also risks.

The Organization of American States (OAS), through its agency specialized in children and adolescents, the Inter-American Children's Institute (IIN), has published the regional report entitled "Guidelines for Empowerment and protection of the rights of children and adolescents on the Internet in Central America and the Dominican Republic. " Although the analysis hangs in the threats of the mentioned regions, the information can be used to try to make the Internet an increasingly safe space, to know the dangers on the Web and, above all, to learn how to avoid the cybercriminals.

And while these threats may affect any Internet user without distinguishing between conditions, the most worrying thing is that children have also become targets of cybercriminals. Therefore, we seek to raise awareness among different audiences of the importance of safe and secure use of the Internet and new technologies in a more conscious and responsible way.

Let’s to the point; here are the top 10 Internet risks for children and teens

1. Sexual abuse of children and teenagers on the Internet
This threat refers to all forms of sexual abuse facilitated by information technology and or disseminated through the online media, where exploitation, harassment and sexual abuse occur more and more through the Internet.

2. Cyberbullying / Harassment
It is a form of harassment and aggression that occurs between peers, taking as a medium new technologies, with the intention of propagating messages or cruel images, so that they are seen by more people. The rapid spread and its permanence in Internet increases the aggression against the victim.

3. Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents on the Internet
It includes all acts of a sexual nature committed against a child or teenager through the use of the Internet as a means of sexually exploiting them. It also includes the use of new information and communication technologies, which generate images or materials that document sexual exploitation with the intention of producing, disseminating, buying and selling.

4. Exposure to inappropriate content
Refers to the access or exposure of children and adolescents, intentionally or accidentally, to violent, sexual or hate-generating content. If you want to block some contents and your children use Android phones, it’s recommended for you to use an Android spy app. There are tons of apps but we can recommend you to use Spyzie as it is a powerful spy app for monitoring calls, texts, WhatsApp chats, video calls, photos and many more.

5. Grooming
The term refers to the strategies that an adult accomplishes to gain the trust of a child or teenager, through the Internet, for the purpose of sexually abusing or exploiting. Grooming is always performed by an adult.

There are two types of grooming: the first is when there is no previous phase of relationship and trust generation, but the sender is able to obtain photos or sexual videos of the child to extort. The second is when there is an earlier stage in which the stalker seeks to generate confidence, causing the child or adolescent to deliver sexual material in order to make him the target of blackmail. The stalker usually pretends to be a child, can manipulate through the tastes and preferences of the victim and uses the time to strengthen the bond.

6. Sexual Abuse Materials for Digitally Generated Children and Adolescents
It is the artificial production, through digital media, of all kinds of material that represents children and adolescents who participate in sexual activities and / or in a sexualized way, to make the facts seem real.

7. Publication of private information
Refers to the publication of sensitive data online. For example, on social networks.

8. Happy slapping
It is a form of cyberbullying that occurs when one or more people harass an individual while the incident is recorded to be broadcast on social networks. The goal is to make fun of the victim.

9. Sexting
It is defined as the self-production of sexual images, with the exchange of images or videos with sexual content, through phones and / or the Internet (messages, emails, social networks). It can also be considered as a form of sexual harassment in which a child and adolescent are pressured to send a photo to the partner, who spreads it without their consent.

10. Sextorion
It is blackmail carried out to children or adolescents through intimidating messages that threaten to propagate sexual images or videos generated by the victims themselves. The intention of the extortionist is to continue with sexual exploitation and / or have sex with the victim.

10 of the above hazards can occur anytime and anywhere. We have to anticipate them as much as possible and with the help of spy applications we can do monitoring much better.
