Are you tired of waiting for your 15 minutes of fame? Wait no more. For a few bucks, you can now buy yourself a spot on a billboard seen by millions in Hollywood.
For $25, www.SummerOnSunset.com
lets you buy a 3"x3" square on a 24'x26' lighted billboard. The picture you will upload will be shown immediatly on the on the online version of the billboard along with a link to your personal website. The actual billboard will be located
at the corner of
Sunset Blvd. and Bronson Ave. directly across from the Warner Sunset Studios building and will stay up for 9 weeks over the summer. If you think 3"x3" will be a little to small to fit your gigantic ego, nothing prevents you from buying a bunch of squares and compose a giant picture of your face.
Sam Mosley, founder of the project, accepted to answer a few questions for BrooWaha. The interview follows:
Who are you?
Sam. 29. Lawyer. Mom. Wife. Self-proclaimed cool kid. I now live in Atlanta, but was born and raised in L.A. and lived there until 2 years ago. I moved for family, economics, employment, etc., but there’s no place like home.
When did you get the idea of
summeronsunset.com
?
The idea came at the end of last summer. I was missing LA desperately-cruising Sunset Blvd., shopping on Melrose Ave., people watching at Hollywood & Highland, Venice beach on Sunday afternoons…You get the idea.
I was reminiscing with my husband
and told him that I wished I could spend the summer in LA. I was hoping that he’d offer some
vacation funds and agree to keep our son for a couple of weeks, but instead, in
his usual sarcastic tone, he suggested that I get a billboard on Sunset Blvd. of
myself and then I could spend all “summer on Sunset”. (I don’t know if you’re
familiar with Angelyne
, but in the 90’s she had large pink billboards up of
herself all over L.A. and this was what he was referring to.)
While that wasn’t what I planned, I was going to show him…
Never one to be discouraged, I did the research and found out how much it would cost, etc and determined that to pull it off, I would have to engage some more people. I then decided that maybe it would be cool for lots of people be a part of the project and the idea was born.
Did you receive any funding to start this project or are you sponsored?
I funded the site design and promotion myself. The site purchases will cover the billboard costs.
What kind of people do you think will mostly purchase squares on your billboard?
Initially I thought it would be the MySpace crowd, but you never know with a project like this. I think people with fond memories of LA and people who may otherwise never get to LA will be a part of it too. Of course there will be the people looking to get “discovered”, and what a great way to get some exposure, so we’ll see.

Cool idea. I checked out the site..And it looks like that million pixel site. Wouldve been cooler if you got to occupy the whole billboard for 20 minutes.
