There are several things to look out for when choosing a travel laptop.

Technology has evolved to the point where we can now take our work with us everywhere. Right now, there are so many laptops to choose from that will offer good looks, light weight, faster processing speed and so many other features. However, because you are going to be using it, the best laptop for travel is one you can afford to lose! There are several things to look out for when choosing a travel laptop.

1. Travel laptop budget

Traveling with a basic budget laptop helps you more than an expensive professional one. This is because one of the biggest challenges on the road is power. Having a laptop with all the high-end specs is not the best choice as these consume more power. The basic travel needs are majorly web browsing, social media and multimedia, a decent laptop below $500 should do the job. If you are a power user, you are better off opting for an Ultra book which would provide you all the computing power and mobility balance that fits your needs.

2. Size and weight

Size and weight should also be considered. You do not want to be hauling a brick around the world. There are many benefits to having a slim laptop that does the job. It makes backpacking much easier. Also, you would like the comfort and flexibility of being able to whip out your device in a confined space and do your work. When choosing a travel laptop, finding a good balance of weight and size is very important.

3. Screen size

Screen size affects price and size when buying a laptop. For traveling reasons, 11 to 13-inch screen makes the ideal size to consider. That size is also power efficient so you can do more efficiently without compromising functionality. The smaller netbooks which were touted to be the future of computing could not cut it due to their weak specifications, small screens and poor power efficiency. A matte finish screen will also help you more productive outdoors.

4. Battery life

Battery life is by far the most important feature to put into mind when choosing a laptop. Mac Book Pros have the best battery life in the market without cutting an inch of functionality. Look at how long the battery is going to last before you decide.

5. 2 in 1 laptops or full-size laptops

A lot of hardware companies have been pushing convertible 2-in-1 laptops as the future of computing on the go. Convertible laptops can be used as either regular laptop or as tablets. Microsoft’s new Surface Pro line is leading the charge in showing the potential balance that this new breed of machines has. They have the portability of a tablet and the functionality of a laptop. Touchscreens also reduce the need for keyboards which can save valuable space. Convertibles may not be as powerful as full-size laptops but they are quite capable to help you with most computing duties.

The best laptop you can buy for travel depends ultimately on what works best for you. Choose an OS that you are very comfortable with. Read a lot of reviews online and speak to the agents at the store. If it’s possible, give it a spin to get an accurate feel for its weight and size relative to your luggage. Most importantly, make sure there is a good return policy in the event of mishaps.
