San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsome has been accurately described by Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly as the Pinhead of the Year. Mayor Newsome has actually proposed placing a tax on establishments that sell Coca-Cola, Pepsi and other popular soft drinks claiming that the high fructose corn syrup is responsible for obesity in San Francisco. Mayor Newsome believes that this tax will be useful in off-setting the rising health care costs of those who are obese. Mayor Newsome is about as big a moron as they come.
Shepard Smith of the Fox Report interviewed Deborah King, a so-called social consciousness expert and author of Truth Heals: What You Hide Can Hurt You. According to her website, Dr. King is a fitness and wellness expert. Her doctorate is a Ph.D. Please. This is like letting a locomotive driver design your computer network because he’s an engineer. It’s very difficult to take health and wellness advice from someone who isn’t an M.D. Therefore, for the rest of this article, Dr. King will be addressed as Ms. King, so as to not confuse narrow-minded liberals into thinking King knows what she’s talking about.
During Ms. King’s appearance, she actually compared the high fructose corn syrup ingredient and soda itself to cigarettes. As if calling herself a doctor isn’t hiding something, she actually thinks the effects of soda are on the same level as cigarettes. As Shepard Smith pointed out, “there are no second-hand effects to drinking soda last time I checked.†Smith is right. The only person being hurt is the drinker.
Additionally, Ms. King actually agreed with Mayor Newsome calling the idea “stupendousâ€. Actually, Ms, King, the correct word here is “stupidâ€. Mayor Newsome has repeatedly shown himself to be the King of Stupid. This particular proposal actually happens to be the icing on the cake as it were.
No one denies or argues that the high fructose corn syrup in soda is fattening. All forms of sugar are fattening simply because they do a number of things to the metabolism. As simple sugars, they cause the body to release insulin into the system to help burn the sugar. The simple sugars burn more quickly and are depleted sooner. But insulin has a second job and that is to break down carbohydrates to be burned as well. Thing is, as simple sugar is being consumed, the complex sugars in carbohydrates are being stored as fat to be used later. Consume more soda and your body will store more fat.
But Mayor Newsome seems to think that by taxing soda, the rising costs of caring for the obese can be offset. Typical stupid liberal propaganda. The reality is that, as Shepard Smith pointed out, Mayor Newsome knows that people won’t stop drinking soda. They will come to accept the tax and the city will become dependent on that revenue stream. As such, the city will keep raising that tax because no one is going to try to make that tax go away – it’s too much of a cash cow.
Have the higher taxes on cigarettes actually offset the rising cost of cancer patients? No. Have the higher taxes caused a reduction in cigarette use? No. Have the higher taxes on cigarettes discouraged people from smoking? No. Mayor Newsome’s proposal has all the markings of a stupid, head-up-butt, liberal policy that will benefit no one but politicians. Even worse, since soda isn’t addictive like nicotine – the primary ingredient in cigarettes, people can much more easily avoid purchasing soda. Once that happens, the only people who will suffer are Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper and 7-Up. It isn’t likely that those companies will suffer much unless the whole nation picks up on this idea and that isn’t likely because most people in America aren’t terribly fond of the ultra-left-wing stupidity that San Francisco has come to represent. As a city, San Francisco may very well be a nice place to visit, but its mayor took a swan-dive off the deep end a long time ago. Wise up mayor, your proposal is stupid and for that, you most assuredly deserve Bill O’Reilly’s Pinhead of the Year title.
