Eating an unhealthy diet - such as food prepared in fat or oil and take outs - are one of the major reasons why fat accumulates in the belly. A study that was completed in Brazil provided evidence that as much as 51.7% of adolescents (children between the ages of 10 and 19) were considered to be abdominal obese in developing countries and as much as 33.2% of adolescents were obese in their abdominal region in developed countries. Another study provided evidence that as much as 35.7% of men and 43.9% of women in England had excessive amounts of belly fat.

Belly fat, just like being overweight or obese, can be a dangerous condition that puts the body at a larger risk of developing certain diseases. This causes the body to produce more insulin, which puts a person at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. This, however, isn't the only concern about belly fat. This includes doing more physical exercise, especially activities that focuses on the abdominal region, as well as eating a diet that includes different kinds of healthy foods.
