Red, Green, and White holiday lights and garland surrounded the stage as the orchestra members of the Bobby Rodriguez Latin Jazz Orchestra were all dressed in Santa hats.
And, what gifts they presented the audience on a frosty evening at California State University, Los Angeles Luckman Auditorium.
Surprizes wrapped in a fa, la, la, la, la of joy, embodied in expressions of warmth, love, wonder, and creative force. A Cha, Cha swing bringing glee to all "kids from 1 to 92...".
Bobby Rodriguez and his 23-piece Latin Jazz Orchestra shareda variety of performances that included traditional Christmas tunes to reverent ones where some of the audience joined in with glee.
The music was filled with passion and salsa rhythms, syncopated by Latin infused musicality at its best. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", "O Christmas Tree", "Jingle Bells", "The Christmas Song", and more.
Many young in age stars sharing in the groove of the night shone bright with individual solo performances. Some accompanied by orchestra members.
Bobby Rodriguez is a incredible musician, teacher, advocate who plays trumpet, composes, and entertains locally and across the nation. Mr. Rodriquez' festive holiday extravaganza was a retreat into the joy of the season and a reflective inspiration for 2008.
The night left audience members ready to go home and hang stockings, bring out dance shoes, raise singing voices, and hearts to the goodwill of all.
Although the "holiday season" is over...a new year leads to opportunities to spread that goodwill, joy, cultural connection, community engagement, and love all year.
A Happy, Healthy, Innovative, Connected, and Conscious 2008!
