Responsive Website Design

The users have demanded a universal approach to the websites wherein switching between desktop and mobile layouts should be unified.

Since responsive web design (RWD) is the cheapest and the most convenient option to make that possible, it is no surprise that website owners are revamping their website to accommodate smaller screen on mobile devices. In case you are developing a new website, there really isn’t any reason why you should not be using RWD.

However, it is not all about just making your website responsive. Implementing RWD is swift, but how do you plan on making it useful? It is really simple to identify a sloppily done responsive design. If you are not confident, it is advised to stick with the traditional desktop design, rather than negatively defying your online presence and your users.

Ponder Over the Content, Avoid Confined Labels

According to past trends, the boundaries of desktop and mobile browsing were predetermined. The general consensus of the developers was that the desktop users were considered static and the mobile users roaming. It affected the type of content each user could view. For example, a travelling agency would highlight ticket buying option on the desktops and for the mobile users it would highlight the directions to that place. Soon enough, such a preposition raised complications.

There are no predefined separate boundaries for mobile and desktop browsing anymore. People literally use the device which is easily accessible to look up the information they need. People have made it a habit to stream TV shows right on their mobiles.

The whole concept of static and roaming users did not stand the time of technological advancement.

Keep It in Flow

Typically, the best design should be fluid between breakpoints, and not stationary. Elements like media queries should use proportional units such as %, em and rem instead of pixels. Although fixed layouts are easier to code, they are too flimsy for responsive website design services.

Don’t Compromise Performance

Responsive web design is a cheap and simple fix to get your content accessible with cross platform compatibility. Yet, you need to plan ahead.

Media content can play a major role to entice and engage the users, both on desktops and mobile. If you do not optimize your images, you will be left with a larger sized image which does not load fast enough over the feeble mobile network. Even on a faster connection, it will just suck the data units of the user, further displeasing them.

The same goes for video content, especially if the format does not read on the mobile device. It is usually better to stick with popular formats like HTML5 for your video needs, since Flash and WEBM is not supported on today’s latest smartphones.

Since you are revamping or maybe designing a new website altogether, look into some affordable SEO packages which will help your website rank higher and garner more organic travel, influencing sales.
