Return to Excellence for the Silver and Black

by Jeff Weisinger (writer), New York, NY, October 04, 2007

Ever since their disasterous loss in Super Bowl XXXVII to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, most can say that the Oakland Raiders have lost their swagger.

After posting a 2-14 record in the 2006 season, the Raiders are finally beginning to turn things around.

Last year, the Raiders had very inconsistent play no the offense. Quarterbacks Aaron Brooks, Andrew Walter and Marques Tuiososopo could not get the offense going. Now, Andrew Walter in the only one that remains on the roster.

However, the 2007 season has been much more kind to the Silver and Black.

After starting the season 0-2, the Raiders have begun to get their groove back thanks to quarterback Daunte Culpepper.

Culpepper, who came in relief of opening day starter Josh McCown, proved to everyone in the past two weeks that he can still play and that his knee is 100% healed as he rushed for three touchdowns against his old team the Miami Dolphins last Sunday as he led the Raiders to a 35-17 win in his first start as a Raider.

The Raiders have been much improved offensively this season, as they are one of the top 10 offenses in the league averaging about 350 yards a game.

However, the offensive improvement hasn't completely reached the defensive side of the ball. Oakland was one of the NFL's top defenses last season (despite the 2-14 record), however they have struggled this season allowing just over 350 yards a game and are ranked 27th in total defense.

Regardless though, the Raider Nation does have something to cheer for this season for the fact that the offense is back with improved play on the offensive line and Culpepper leading the way.

The Raiders once again are "Just Winning Baby".
