Famous celebrities: Are they being targets from their past?

by Lakwyia (writer), rock hill, sc, September 22, 2007

Most of the famous stars or celebrities today have their wild pasts, gone to jail and then they come out usually a better or the same person as before. But when you see others who have done pretty much the same or somewhat possibly worse, then it becomes a problem within the law so far as famous people wanting to live their lives without being targeted for every little thing they do. Now let's just get it all out in the open with this O.J. Simpson case. Why would they want to give this man all these years in prison just for having a gun(not counting the other charges yet)? Yes, i do feel personally that O.J. did go about it wrong and should have called the police first instead of trying to take care of it himself. Everyone in the world knows what this case is boiling down to and this is crazy. Some people still cannot get over the fact that he isn't in prison over his ex-wife's(Nicole Simpson)death. There wasn't anything to prove whatsoever,so that needs to stay where it is. Now the law is trying to find different ways to put O.J. in prison permanently under petty circumstances. A person ask me the other day what i thought about the "Jena 6". Truthfully this is a case that needs to be thrown out also. I believe these six young boys were only defending themselves against this other person. But as you can see, the law wants to give these six boys lots of years in prison as well for something just a little petty that could have been taken care of in a different manner. On the other hand there are famous others who are in some serious hot water and this is not petty. For instance, singer R. Kelly. He is still being tried for that alleged incident with the young girl and that so-called tape most people claimed they had. The law really can't prove that either because it may not be R. Kelly on the tape at all. This singer is still loved by the world and is supported in many ways.(Almost reminds you of singer Michael Jackson, right)? As the old saying goes "You're innocent until proven guilty". The law needs to stop trying to come up with ways of ruining people that really doesn't cause problems in everyday society. Whether you are a famous person or not, do not let anyone take your past and still try to make it present to use against you. Hopefully all three cases will be thrown out so we'll know who gets the last laugh.

While I disagree with your views on Simpson in particular, your views are not where my questions are. I wonder why you raise the question at all about celebs being targeted because of their pasts on the one hand, but wave off any discussion on the merits of those 'pasts' on the other. Seems to me you're climbing out on a limb and sawing it off behind you. If you have views on Simpson, the Jena 6, R. Kelly, and the rest, describe those views to justify the stance you're taking now in terms of why celebrities should or shouldn't be scrutinized in light of past conduct. Also, I'd like to how you think of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan --- not that I'm interested in them because frankly, I'm not. But, I am curious as to what you, as a writer here, think about those situations given your article's "suspicion of suspicion".
