The wait is almost over.
This year Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital, will play host to the 2015 World Archery Championships. As the preparation in the city reaches its peak, the world is gearing up to experience another amazing archery tournament of the highest order.
This Olympic Quota Tournament in Copenhagen is all set to commence from July 26, following the World Archery Congress to be held between July 24 and 25. And it would extend till August 2. This competition will provide the participating archers with the very first chance to qualify for the Olympics to be held in Rio in 2016.
When the 2009 World Cup Archery Final was hosted in the iconic Nyhavn in Copenhagen by the Archery Denmark Association, it received worldwide praise and acclamation. Such widespread acknowledgment set the stage for this year's destination selection. And Copenhagen emerged crowned.
This year, expectations are on the rise for Copenhagen to pull off an even better feat than that of 2009.
This bi-annual World Archery Championship is expected to be a huge hit with approximately 500 archers from 75 countries fighting for a spot in the Olympics.
“It is fantastic that so many participating countries have already signed up for the Championships in Denmark. The preparations are progressing according to plan”, Rolf Lind, President of Archery Denmark, has been reported as saying, “I now dream that our Danish archers will perform at their best at the World Championships, making it possible to end a large sport event in the heart of Copenhagen with seeing the Danish flag raised at the victory ceremony.”
Amidst the rising expectations, the fan base has hit high ground. In fact, recent reports have revealed that archery fanatics from as many as 13 countries have already secured tickets for the final.
The 2015 World Archery Championship, like the ones before, will be a similar program constituting the following in the recurve and compound disciplines:
- Individual events
- Team events
- Mixed team events
The preliminary program includes qualification and elimination rounds, which will be held at the Sundby Idrætspark. The finals will be held on August 1 and 2 at the heart of the city at the Christiansborg Palace, with the exquisite Danish Parliament serving as a splendid backdrop.
