This is a month old but still worth mentioning... Google has added several cities to its Street View service on August 8th and our beloved city of angels is now part of the few locations you can browse from the comfort of your home computer. The other cities added to the service last month are San Diego, Houston and Orlando.
For those of you who don't know what Google Street View is, check out the video below in which a Google guy will enthusiastically take you through the service dressed in a sexy orange spandex:
Want to give it a try now? How about you start on 3rd Street Promenade , get on Wilshire and cruise to Westwood in 5 minutes? (Yes, with StreetView, traffic is also a thing of the past). The interface is really intuitive and you can actually use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate through the streets of our city. Pick your starting point and off you go!
The Street View service was launched on May 25th of this year by Google as an added feature to their Google Maps website. At first only available in New York City, San Francisco, Miami, Denver and Las Vegas, Street View is now available in a few more cities.
The service created an outcry soon after its release due to privacy concerns raised by this feature. Indeed, some websites quickly made public a number of pictures taken from Street View showing girls sunbathing in bikinis, men leaving strip clubs and other activities you would not necessarily want your mom/wife/grandmother to know of.
Google has plans in the near future to add other U.S. cities to Street View, including Richmond, Phoenix, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Chicago, Baltimore, Boston, Jacksonville, Philadelphia and Seattle.
Rumor has it that by looking a little on Street View you can find a picture of El G and Gary Peterson leisurely sharing a cup of coffee in Hollywood. Can't wait to see that.
