Support The Troops By Keeping Them Alive Longer

by Chris Jones (writer), Houston, August 24, 2007

U.S. troops in Iraq will receive at least 1,000 fewer special armored vehicles than expected this year due to the amount of time needed for shipment, the Pentagon announced.

It appears that “Supporting The Troops” is nothing more than just rhetoric since the best way to support them would be to keep them from being blown to pieces.

What the hell has happened to this country? The Pentagon had expected to get at least 2,500 of the new Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles delivered to the troops in Iraq this year.

I can’t think of a higher priority as long as our men and women are in combat than to get them whatever equipment they need. It is beyond pathetic that the world’s only superpower can’t build, equip, and ship 2,500 vehicles that are desparately needed by our troops.

Then as if that wasn’t bad enough, the main reason they are taking so long to get to Iraq is because The Pentagon is transporting them by ship. But don’t worry there is a completely reasonable explanation for this! According to Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell,

“…given the numbers to be produced, it will quickly become more cost effective to send them by ship, he said, noting November and December would be the highest production months to date.”

Wow, that is sure to be a morale booster! It’s more cost effective for our soldiers to get there limbs blown off while the vehicles they need float to Iraq.

During WWII auto plants in the U.S. temporarily stopped producing cars and instead produced tanks because we were at war and desperately needed them. Coming up 1,000 tanks short simply wasn’t an option and we came together as a country and got the job done.

It’s disgusting that Congress thinks nothing of loading bills with millions in earmarks for bridges to nowhere, or funding some obscure study. But when it comes to spending a little more to fly our troops the vehicles they need during wartime, then it’s time to tighten up the purse strings and work on being more “cost effective.”

You think this administration cares about the troops? If this administration cared about our troops they would never have been sent to Iraq in the first place. If you didnt know gotta know now...we had no business going over there. Leave the tanks on the assembly line and bring the troops home IMHO.

Please define "victory." Get real dude. Don't you get it? Victory is not what Bush and bad buddies want. War is the most profitable business out there. It consumes resources. Resources like lives. Resources like talent redirected. What do you think about Blackwater para-soldiers getting paid tens of thousands of dollars more with 1000% better benfits than our poor sucker soldiers getting their asses shot up for pennies on the dollar?

I discovered Chris from his comment in one of Ed's article inviting me right on over for a discussion. So I sit here on the other side of the philosophical gulf and wonder, how do I have a discussion with this guy? Chris you used the term defeat in another comment and here you use victory. I wish the world was that back and white, it would be so much simpler. What do you consider victory?
