Muath Gave All!

Credit: Mohamed Khairat
Facing the Fire

A poetic tribute to Muath al-Kasasbeth, First Lieutenant in the Royal Jordanian Air Force, burned alive by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

All give some either here or there

Whether on land, sea or in the air

The brave alone fight when the fight’s not fair.

Let us thank whatever gods may be

That he took flight so valiantly.

In Jordan’s defense and against horror and pain,

That ruthless zealotry is bringing back again.

He flew and fell. He was thrown in a cage.

Thus, fanatics provoked worldwide outrage

Now they must be eradicated from the world stage.

Zealots bargained falsely for his life.

In the face of hate and strife

He loved honor more than life.

In the clutches of fanatic rage

He stood tall and clam within the cage.

Perhaps he paused and wondered why

Yet he bravely faced a horrible way to die.

With flames scorching his flesh and bone

He died heroically even though he died alone.

His remains are gone, but his courage lives on.

No matter where or when they meet their fate

Battling the ever seething hate

Some are good and some are great.

From this point on we must heed duty’s call

All give some, but Muath give all!

Amen...it brings tears to my eyes just thinking of this...beyond barbaric...I worked with a beautiful lady that was from Jordan...she had come to Canada as a refugee with her three boys...escaping an abusive husband. I love that your poetry addresses soul searching issues...well written...

Thank you Barbara, and thanks for sharing that recollection. This truly affected me.

America has been hard pressed to find true allies in this region, the Jordanians and the Kurds come as close as any. If we as a country are going to stand by anyone in the Middle East, I believe it should be them.

I have great affection for Canada and love O Canada! For me, that and LeMarsialles are the most profoundly stirring national anthems along with the Star Spangled Banner.

As a veteran, I truly felt for this brave young man. Addtionally, Jordan along with the Kurds seems to me to have been our most worthy Islamic allies in the region and we should truly support them far better than we have I believe.

You are most assuredly correct when you say, "there are many Muslims who are just as disgusted with this barbaric actions in the name of religion."

It is good to be back!

Writing a poem is not an easy work for me. I am also a writer from a dissertation help service to help students to complete their academic papers. I love to write article, but very poor in writing poems. I really don't know why I can't write a great poem
