NASA: Need Another Shot of Alcohol

That's right another blemish on NASA's already tarnished name seems to be coming out. Rumors of astronauts drinking heavily before takeoff have rocked the space community. After the incident with Lisa Norwalk, NASA decided to create an independent panel for astronaut health. Aviation Week & Space Technology reported that the panel found “heavy use of alcohol” within the twelve hour “bottle to throttle” rule. The magazine also said that the panel found that on two separate occasions astronauts were allowed to fly even though the flight surgeons and other astronauts had said that they posed a risk to flight safety.

NASA has confirmed that this report exists but responds with that the interviews about these incidents were from anonymous people and it was unsubstantiated. There were two reports in particular that were brought to light. The first one being an astronaut flying aboard the Russians' Soyuz spacecraft; which have been known to toast and or celebrate a launch into space. The other was aboard the space shuttle which was delayed for mechanical reasons. The second was reported by a colleague only after the mission had been delayed.

This is the newest blemish on NASA in a long list of problems that have effected the space program. Other incidents include sabotage, Lisa Norwalk love triangle, freak hailstorm, and an employee who shot himself. The next space shuttle is expected to take off August 7th and head for the space station. Bill Gerstenmaier, NASA's space operations chief was questioned about the incidents during a news conference for this shuttle mission and responded only with he had never seen an intoxicated astronaut before flight and that he was not involved in any disciplinary actions related to an astronaut being intoxicated before flight.

I can't understand how those astronauts can drink alcohol going on such an important missions. It is a real craziness. No patriotism at all. If I would spot such an astronaut I would restrict it from that job for the whole life because there are no jokes there. Maybe they are flying in the atmosphere with Plastic Champagne Flutes together with them. Of course I am just joking around but who knows. I will stop trusting NASA ir I will read more such articles in the future. Thanks for the article by the way.
