Living the Passion: Danny of Counting Cars

by HomeRearedChef (writer), San Jose, August 07, 2014

Danny "The Count" Koker of Counting Cars is Living the Passion; He is living his dream!

Danny Koker, known as “The Count”, from the television show, Counting Cars, has a passion and obsession for restoring and customizing cars: classic automobiles to vintage cars—motorcycles included. He and his crew have the talent, patience and love required to restore and modify them. They can transform out-of-date vehicles, often in desperate need of a facelift—because beauty is, after all, simply, in the eye-of-the-beholder. And one thing is for certain, together they have what it takes to get the job done, but always to “The Count’s” immaculate specifications.

Counting Cars is a reality show shot in Las Vega, Nevada, and Danny is considered “a legend” there. He is said to walk, talk and breathe cars, from: muscle cars to vintage Thunderbirds to Corvettes to Harleys.

When Danny lays eyes on a sweet ride, parked or on the road (following and asking people to please pull over), or on display or auction, he will not be dissuaded easily but do what he must to own it (often offering cash on the spot). So over the years, Danny has amassed an expansive collection of close to 60 cars, and counting. Now that is living the passion!

From Las Vegas the show chronicles the Count’s on-going and incessant pursuit of rare finds, cars that he will be able to restore and then sell for a profit. After all, the weekly television series has plenty of awesome, show-stopping vehicles to dazzle us with, including the before and after renovations.

Of those that watch the show, each has a different attraction to it, including me.

Some watch because they simply love cars, and there is a raw attraction to not only the power but the beauty of something that is no longer made. It is art; it is a collection of rare things to admire.

To others, it is with a great interest to learn the history behind each car and maker: the year made, and each minute detail to which it is restored.

For someone like me, well, I have always loved old cars, and am mesmerized by the magnificence and oldness of it, the era of days long past.

For those interested in seeing the restoration of old cars and motorcycles, Counting Cars can be seen on the History channel. Check for local time and listing.

We dream a life to be; we live to dream that life! Virginia Kahler-Anderson

I'm a big fan of the show and you're right, you can tell he has a huge passion for what he does. If I were to have an old car restored I'd definitely go to, "The Count."

hey V! You a car nut too! Shake! Yeah love those shows! Incidently, they say money is scant in the U.S. but every car auction, hot rod auction cum custom and rare car shows there's a plethora of buyers, not all old but predominate, who bid exorbitant amounts of money, prodded by the ubiquitous blonde hankering for the key. Probably the instigator of the purchase i'd say? Incidently, i love the 66 chevs and such. I don't know whether there are as many over there now but Cuba was a hot spot for the chevs, taxis etc...but you knew that girl. Behind every successful blown up broken down dented car is a woman! Kidding, they are just as good at driving men...mad! Sorry, driving their cars into repair shops...sorry, they are good drivers, some of them manage to stay off the kerbs and occasionally veer on to the roads...in full control of the make-up mirror. Just jesting, women have more patience i know i couldn't park between vegetable shelves like the ex used to in the supermarket without hitting the overhanging vegies! What is it about women who have to park one metre from a store front? Or threequarters in? When they see smoke tailing them and the needles on the guages show "do you mind stopping hub is going to crack it if you crack it?" Why do they drive on? Actually most women are great drivers, and with the aid of little Johnny reading mum the road map, rarely get lost...too busy telling the other male drivers to do so. And there's nothing wrong with headbutting the oncoming traffic because "my Johnny wouldn't put me on a bum steer which i just shunted up its..." I'm joking, women are great cooks, great drivers...grate gears...i mean...Nice post V, and women don't drive men round the bend with their driving prowess...let's get that straight! And i'm not a Chopinistic pig, never listen to his music. Must admit the overwhelming accident prone are men. Post please.what say the girls? I know Melanie used to have a group of lady drivers who just "got on with it." :>)

Hello Randy, it is very nice to meet you!

Since you, too, like the show, I can assume that you are following it this season. I know that I am. And I especially liked the last one, with the Chevy pickup. The idea to do the pin-striping with paint instead of tape was genious and beautiful!

I agree, by the way, if I had an old car that needed restoration I would definitely take it to the Count.

Riginal, I am one of those women that prefers to park further from the store, I don't mind the walk. And I can tell you that my husband would be one of those people making bids on a car...if he had the money, that is. lol!

And now that you mention it, those old collectible cars they are hogging in Cuba are gorgeous!! I guess in order to keep them running every owner there needs to know HOW to fix his own car. I mean, where could they possibly get a hold of old parts?

Thanks, amigo, for stopping by! :)

Men and their cars...I remember years ago buying a 1972 Firebird for my husband with some money I had gotten in an inheritance....loved the car TILL... he put a 4 barrel carb on it (overhead cam)...whenever you hit the gas it gave you whiplash...but he did love this car so much...I decided to drive the Punch Bug instead...lol. Very nice mi amiga. :)

I officially became a "Car Nut" sometime in Eighth grade.

I read every car magazine in the school library and my mind latched onto the statistics like they were gold! I even started to drive my friends crazy by pointing out every interesting car that crossed our paths, (year, make & model). For a time there in High School I was receiving four different car magazines a month.

My son-in-law got me started on Counting Cars a few years back and I am hooked! Love to see the muscle cars being made even better than they were originally!

My dear amiga, Barbara, there was a time I LOVED shoes, but I never filled a closet like some of my friends did. I don't mind paying good (steep!) money for a good pair, but I can't see having too many. Now, if we talked about kitchens and pots and pans... :)

By the way, I watch Counting Cars because hubby got me started, and now I am hooked.

Mucho BIG hugs, mi Amiga!

I have stopped buying shoes unless they are exactly what I want....I do not mind paying really good money for a good pair of shoes that I then will wear the heck out of

....I have a select few favorites that I "live in" and hate the thought of parting with them.. may just take them to a shoe maker and have them redone....sigh... The show does show interesting Virginia, I will check it out. :)

Souschef, I understand "Car Nut," my hubby is one. Every time an old car goes by he makes me look, and then proceeds to tell me all about it. That is why we watch the show! :)

Take a look at the Chanel handbags photos I have added below (sorry I forgot to remove the protective plastic but I just like to keep it on until I actually use the bag for the first time!) and let me know what you think of my purchase Louis Vuitton handbags in the comments below.First of all I would like to say thank you for your Balenciaga Handbags blog. It is so nice to see somebody is trying to help stop us ladies who are Replica Watches obsessed (but may not have the funds to shop authentic) from spending our money on the many internet scams which exist. I bought Replica Rolex from them which I now realize was a very silly idea.
